For good reason, Lethal Company is a co-op horror title that has taken Steam by storm
The Lethal Company describes itself as a “co-op horror about scavenging at abandoned moons to sell scrap to the Company,” and that’s exactly what it is… at first. It won’t be long before things start going wrong as you scavenge for scrap and desperately try to meet your quota for the Company.
Lethal Company, which costs only R184.00 ($10) and offers hours of replayability with friends, has sold 642,000 copies since its October 23 launch. It currently ranks higher than Baldur’s Gate 3, Apex Legends, and even the Steam Deck in Steam’s Global Top Sellers, and its reviews are overwhelmingly positive… and there are over 12,000 of them
I shouldn’t have to tell you to play this game because its critical acclaim speaks for itself, but if you need an extra push to deposit R184.00 ($10) into your Steam account for this co-op survival horror title, this is it. With its grisly cell-shaded graphics, this Early Access title may not appear to be much, but fans are completely obsessed with Lethal Company, and its gruesome aesthetic is clearly just another part of its charm. The trajectory of its success is actually similar to that of Among Us, which bodes well for the future of Lethal Company.
If you liked the premise of horror games like Phasmophobia or even SCP: Secret Laboratory, Lethal Company has plenty of room for you. You and your comrades will embark on an adventure to explore abandoned moons and collect all the scrap you can – all while using proximity chat – with the emergent gameplay goofiness being one of the game’s many highlights.
You’ll be able to visit new, more treacherous moons as you all progress, which is best played with a group of friends. You can scan creatures to add to your bestiary, stock up on supplies at your spaceship (which you can customize), and, of course, encounter the horrors that the darkness hides. It’s critical to communicate with your comrades, who can stay aboard the ship to help you avoid traps or come along for the scrap haul, and it’s critical to be prepared for whatever abominations you may encounter.
Lethal Company is a must-play if you’re looking for a cheap way to spend a few hours laughing (and screaming) with your friends. Let’s not forget that Lethal Company is also the work of a single developer, Zeekerss, who began by coding for Roblox, making their takeover of Steam’s Top Sellers all the more impressive.
Equal parts terrifying and hilarious, with incomprehensible horrors to discover, learn about and avoid at all costs, you won’t be returning from your time in outer space empty-handed. Especially when it comes to proximity chat.
