It has been confirmed that the new remake of The Witcher will have a fully Open-World feel.

As we reported in October The Witcher remake is coming soon and will be gracing screens on the 14th of December.

The big news here is that the remake will be fully open-world unlike its original. The Open-World aspect wasn’t introduced into the game till The Witcher 3 in 2015.

CDProjekt Red has confirmed the remake of the 2007 The Witcher will be a “story-driven, single-player open World RPG”.

The news came as part of CD Projekt Red’s recent earnings report. The game with the codename Canis Majoris is said to be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5.

Adam Badowski of CD Projekt Red said:

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD Projekt Red. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger.”

During The Witcher 3, Geralt briefly visited Vizima, the capital of the Temerian empire. In The Witcher remake, instead of only having access to the royal castle, players will have full access to Vizima right down to its outskirts.

In the original, each of these regions was divided into a separate level, and once one was finished, players generally didn’t go back. However, it seems that with the remake, every one of these locations will be connected, allowing players to enter and exit Vizima in the same way they can with Novigrad in The Witcher 3.

The original game was a linear action-adventure game that brought players through “zone-based” quests. This time, the remake is being more closely aligned with The Witcher 3, which had a more flexible, player-driven gameplay architecture.

This is about all that was revealed about the new project but we do now know that The Witcher Remake will be a vast improvement on the original and that the developer has a lot in store for the title.
