The upcoming free-to-play multiplayer will feature factions from outside the Tom Clancy universe.
The 6v6 multiplayer was introduced in 2021 and will feature factions from the Tom Clancy franchises of Ghost Recon, The Division, and Splinter Cell.
Insider Tom Henderson has confirmed the Tom Clancy name drop, as well as the fact that the game would be getting some additional tests as part of the new Insider Sessions program, which will be open to “select registrants on PC” with invitations already sent out.
The game will now be known as XDefiant as a result of the alterations as announced by Ubisoft, and new factions will be added to the existing Tom Clancy-based units: the Wolves (Ghost Recon), the Echelon (Splinter Cell), the Cleaners, and the Outcasts (The Division).
The “insider sessions” will allow a select group of players to participate in development testing sessions. PC players will be the first to be tested, followed by other platforms and testers in the future.
It hasn’t been divulged what content the tests will contain as yet, but it should allow players to get the vibe of the game and see if they enjoy it. The official site said about the insider sessions:
” These play sessions will place players with and against our development team to showcase different features of the game. We learned a lot from our last Closed Test, thanks to your in-depth and genuine feedback. Which we’re hoping for even more of.
XDefiant Insider Sessions will be available for select registrants on PC. Invitations to these sessions will be sent starting March 15th. As the tests progress, we plan to expand the number of participants. Remember, registration is open to all players, PC and console, so be sure to register for updates on when console players will enter testing.”
If you wish to sign up for the “insider sessions” you can do so via the official XDefiant website now.
XDefiant has no official release date as of yet but we do know it will be coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Stadia, Amazon Luna, and Ubisoft Connect, complete with cross-play at launch.
Not much is known about the gameplay yet or its overview, but the official website describes the game as:
“a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters battle for domination.”
