Andy Hall, Creative Assembly principal writer and narrative designer, hinted that Cathay and Kislev’s rosters could be expanded in future DLC.

Creative Assembly’s upcoming real-time strategy game Total War: Warhammer 3 will include more Legendary Heroes and expand its representation of Cathay. During a recent interview, Creative Assembly principal writer and narrative designer Andy Hall revealed that the game would feature more “Warhammer celebrities” and Legendary Heroes.

Some armies in Total War: Warhammer is led by procedurally generated lords whose names and perks are randomized, while others are led by Legendary Lords.

The only heroes you could have roaming the land solo or embedded in those armies were randomized ones, which left fictional characters who weren’t really generals absent unless a text event or temporary summoning took place.

In recent times, some Legendary Heroes have been added to the games, including popular book characters such as Felix and Gotrek, as well as Ariel, the wood elf mage-queen, Venerable Lord Kroak from the lizardmen faction, and others. Creative Assembly principal writer and narrative designer, Andy Hall, revealed in an interview with The Rookery that this trend will continue in Total War: Warhammer 3. He also stated that we can expect more “Warhammer celebrities” to feature as lord options.

The graphics for this game are a work of art and this image depicts some of the enemies you will come across.

Andy Hall stated:

“We have done some Legendary Heroes now and they proved quite popular. So we will certainly continue with that category. With Legendary Lords they’re your avatar in this world, they’re meant to be you’re roleplaying as them, so it makes sense to try and bring as many of those Warhammer celebrities into that role as possible.
Even if, like Deathmaster Snikch, they’re typically not generals, they’re loners. But again, we’re following in the footsteps of the tabletop. They do that as well.”

Hall did not commit to anything specific regarding DLC, but did describe potential additions to Cathay and Kislev’s rosters as “a fair assumption”. According to him, the next area to receive attention will be Cathay.

“Cathay, just like its Earth counterpart, is a massive space. It’s a massive area and we’ve just touched the bit near the Great Bastion and a little bit on the west leading into the Mountains of Mourn. There is so much more of Cathay to look at if you’re looking for new areas to expand.
But we’re also looking at all the other races, we’re well aware that some of the races that have been released early, very early, need some love too.”

The game’s director Rich Aldridge had this to say about new content coming to the game:

“Looking forward, I think we’ve got a really exciting year. There’s going to be new content, bug fixing, quality of life improvements, and taking on board everything that you’re reaching out and telling us.
I daresay some of this is going to hopefully be on your Wanted list, but I also think there’s going to be a few nice surprises there, too.”

Total War: Warhammer 3 was released on the 17th of February last year and has since gained major popularity. It will be interesting to see exactly what is up the sleeves of the developers as far as the new DLC goes and we will keep an eye out for any news regarding this.
