Due to players “throwing tantrums” about recent Twitch Drops for the game, the decision has been made to give all players the same basic items.
Complex Games released Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters on the 5th of this month, just a few days ago, and it has garnered mainly positive reviews, aside from a few Performance and Balance issues.
The game was intended to be a remake of Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate from 1998, instead it’s being compared to the Modern Xcom series.
it was announced that in-game items were being given away via Twitch drops, and fans were not happy about it. For those who aren’t aware, a Twitch Drop is when in-game items are given free to people that watch streamers playing the game live on Twitch.
The Twitch Drops themselves were labeled as “just extra layers of meaningful crap you have to go through to enjoy 100% of the game” and the items in question were largely cosmetic with some only giving the player a +5% chance to crit.
They’re the kinds of items you’ll use at the beginning of the game before upgrading and unlocking better gear.
The Steam Forum blew up with complaints about the Twitch Drops with one user labeling them “greed” and another saying ”I must enslave myself not to miss the two unique streams so I can get some of the cut loot” and then there were others who have sworn off the game in its entirety saying that they would just avoid the game because of the “Twitch crap.”
The various complaints did not fall on deaf ears though and Complex Games released a statement saying:
“One of the areas we have noted is the frustrations around the various Twitch drop campaigns we ran around the launch of the game. Whilst the sole objective of these campaigns was to drive awareness, we understand many feel this locked in-game items away from them.
This was certainly not our intention and we appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. As such, we will make all items from every Twitch drop campaign available to players via one of our planned updates in May. We will confirm which update and the exact date when this is finalized.”
There were also complaints about a missing cinematic on the game and Complex Games have responded to these complaints with a patch and stated:
“We are aware that some Force Commanders have been experiencing performance issues. Our QA and dev teams are hard at work investigating all the reports and we will have updates to help resolve these issues very soon.”
We all know that some players can be extra when it comes to new games and their complaints reflect as much, and even though Twitch Drops are being used by many companies now to get their games out there we can see how they can be annoying.
At least though it seems that Complex Games is sitting up and taking notice and is planning to fix these issues and keep players happy.
