Twitch has launched a Beta for a built-in fundraising tool called Twitch Charity.
The news was unveiled in a blog post yesterday where Twitch announced the “Twitch Charity” Beta.
Charity streams on Twitch are very popular, and they help to generate money for important challenges that modern people face.
In the past, you would be redirected to manage the logistics of raising money and getting to the relevant parties.
With the introduction of Twitch Charity, a new set of donation tools integrated into the platform itself, the company is now expediting that procedure. “With just a few clicks”, Twitch claims that the new tools will make it easier to launch a charity stream.
The blog post states:
“Charity streams are a core part of what makes Twitch a wonderful place. The generosity, the community, the sense of belonging and solidarity — it’s a beautiful experience and entirely a product of the communities and streamers who make Twitch go ‘round. We wanted to make these moments do even more good so, say hello to the new Twitch Charity Beta.”
The post goes on to explain the new feature saying:
“Twitch Charity is our new built-in fundraising stream feature that allows you to set up and run a stream for charity in just a few clicks. The hassles of running a charity stream — tracking donations, converting subs and Bits, managing multiple programs and apps at once — are what we’re hoping to make as minimally hassle-y as possible. And fewer hassles free you up to focus more on what you do best. Selecting a cause you care about and setting up a fundraising stream can all be done through the new Charity section in your Creator Dashboard. “
All users have to do is select a charity, establish a fundraising target, and allow a campaign to enter “charity mode.” The “Donate to Charity” option will then be visible to viewers, allowing them to support the campaign after all of those stages have been finished. The streamer will automatically be able to follow every donation made throughout the stream in relation to the target they established for themselves via the activity feed.
There will be no cuts or tax right-offs for Twitch from the donations made during the stream; all funds generated will go to the streamer’s PayPal Giving Fund. The Paypal Giving Fund will take care of all the administrative tasks involved in setting up a charity stream and will precisely track all donations and monies made in favour of the streamer’s chosen charity.
Twitch says they will start with a few charities at first but hopes to “add many more soon”.
At the time of writing the only way to set up a Twitch Charity Stream is if Twitch has sent you an email personally allowing you to participate in the Beta.
This is great news for all Twitch streamers and content creators as this will make it easier to manage their charity streams in the future.
