Twitch has changed its enforcement policy including telling banned streamers the reason for their ban.
It has been a thorn in many streamers’ side to be mysteriously banned from Twitch without even a hint of the reason for their ban. Well, this outdated policy has been replaced finally after ten long years.
Amazon-owned Twitch said yesterday that they will now reveal the reasons for suspending or permanently banning streamers.
Twitch support Tweeted:
The tweet included an example of an explanation for the user’s ban. The explanation is a little clearer now, but it still has a vague quality to it.
One of the more famous Twitch bans that were never explained was that of popular streamer Dr. Disrespect who got a lifetime ban with no explanation in June of 2020. This particular ban was a shock to the Gaming community and fans of Dr.Disrespect alike who demanded to know the reasons for this major ban.
Twitch is in the habit of banning users with hundreds of thousands of subscribers with no explanation and has done so many times with only a vague reason as to why.
Some streamers with bans include: Minecraft streamer George “GeorgeNotFound’’ Davidson which was banned for “harassment via username”, unbanned and then temporarily banned again. We all know about Amouranth and her temporary suspension for suggestively slurping mics and licking plastic human ears.
Twitch upgrades continue to be requested by the platform’s streamers and viewers, but the site’s reaction falls short of the community’s expectations. Despite the new messages, Twitch customers still want more information about why their account was suspended.
We can only hope that these new explanations will shed light on Twitch’s obscure banning policies that have been plaguing users since its inception in 2011.
Twitch is a popular site because of its numerous content providers, so this new guideline should make for a more streamer-friendly experience for users, well in theory.
What are your opinions on the matter? Have you or a buddy ever been banned from Twitch, and how was the experience?
