Massive Entertainment’s open-world Star Wars game appears to be on track…

Ubisoft’s upcoming action-adventure game Star Wars Outlaws, which follows scoundrel Kay Vess between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, previously had no release date other than a very broad “2024” window. Today, however, a Disney Parks blog post announced quietly that it would open in “late 2024.” This didn’t last long, as Ubisoft quickly intervened to correct the record and re-establish the general 2024 timeframe.

Ubisoft’s highly anticipated open-world game Star Wars Outlaws will be released in late 2024.

Though Ubisoft and Star Wars owner Disney had previously kept the release date under wraps, a Disney Parks blog post quietly announced the release window, which had previously only been confirmed to be sometime in 2024.

“Star Wars Outlaws, the open-world Star Wars game, is set to release late this year,” the post said. “The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.”

Star Wars Outlaws was revealed at the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase, followed by a gameplay presentation, and fans quickly became obsessed with the adorable axolotl-like Nix.

The game is set between Star Wars: Episode 5 – The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi, which developer Massive Entertainment explained was due to the thriving criminal underworld at the time.

The developer also confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws’ open-world formula is more “handcrafted” and “manageable,” with one planet roughly the size of two or three regions in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
