Using conversational AI, Microsoft is creating a new web browsing experience.

Microsoft has announced that the search engine Bing is now powered by the same AI technology that underpins Microsoft’s chatbot ChatGPT. The company is launching the product along with new AI-enhanced features for its Edge browser, promising to provide a new way to browse the web.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, confirmed that Microsoft has incorporated some of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 language technologies into Bing.

This new AI-powered Bing search and Edge browser launched on Tuesday in a limited preview. During this period users will have access to a limited number of queries to search.

According to the company, millions of people will have access to the full version in the coming weeks after a waitlist has been created. A mobile version of Bing is also planned by Microsoft.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced the products at an event saying ”It’s a new day in search”.

Nadella reiterated that web search has been stagnant for years and AI can change all that by delivering information more fluidly.

He went on to say:

“AI will fundamentally change every software category, starting with the largest category of all -search. Today, we’re launching Bing and Edge powered by AI copilot and chat, to help people get more from search and the web.
The race starts today, and we’re going to move and move fast. Most importantly, we want to have a lot of fun innovating again in search, because it’s high time.”

Microsoft has announced that the search engine Bing is now powered by the same AI technology that underpins Microsoft's chatbot ChatGPT.

Microsoft went on to show various examples of the product in action. One of them allows users to directly communicate with the Bing chatbot by asking it questions via a chat interface similar to ChatGPT. While another mode pairs standard search results with AI annotations.

They then went on to show a number of example searches. These query bing about travel tips, recipes, shopping for furniture, etc.

The Chatbot provided comprehensive answers to the queries and provided links to more resources.

According to Microsoft, the AI OpenAI language model that supports ChatGPT. They have updated GPT 3.5, to power all of these features.

In addition to these features, people can create content using the new Bing. It can prepare you for a job interview, write an email, or make a quiz for trivia night.

The search engine will undergo a transformation thanks to this new technology as AI increasingly takes over.
