Warhammer 40,000 is getting a new game and it’s coming this May.
Black Labs is the developer that brought us Battlestar Galactica Deadlock and they are at it again with the announcement of a new Warhammer game coming in May. This time around they are partnering with publisher Slitherine to bring us a new offering in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Slitherine has published such games as Warhammer 40,00: Gladius – Relics of War, Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach, and Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon. They are also known for their other works namely: Chariots of War, Spartan, Horrible Histories: Ruthless Romans, and many more war based games both digital and tabletop versions.
This new game won’t be space based this time though they have decided to focus the gameplay on land based warfare. This will be a turn-based strategy game set in the current 9th edition timeline, meaning Primaris units that will pit Space Marines of the Blood Angels chapter against the hordes of the Tyranids.
The game is described as a “battle Ladder” strategy game.
Battles are fought with between 10 and 25 units on grid based maps and will include unit types such as hero and Battleship. Your forces will be made up of customizable units.
Most of these will allow you to choose a handful of weapon options. You will also have the option of having special abilities, 60 altogether are available in the game. You will need to strategize as each unit will have its own strengths and weaknesses to contend with.
In the solo campaign, the Blood Angels will try to defend their home planet of Baal from the Hivefleet Leviathan, and allow you to manage a persistent battle force that will evolve and improve over time.
You can also field one of the various unique heroes each having their own unique “Command HQ” unlockable abilities that will bring your force even more potency.
Even though the Space Marines are the only ones getting a solo campaign you are able to play as the Tyranids in Skirmish and online multiplayer modes. Other modes that will be included are an email play multiplayer mode, and a hotseat multiplayer mode. They have also suggested that there will be further factions added to future DLC expansions.
This all sounds very exciting and if you are a fan and would like to learn more about the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector you can tune in to Slitherine’s Livestream on their Twitch channel which will be starting in a few hours.
