Warner Bros. Responds To Live Service Rumours In Wonder Woman Game

It appears that Wonder Woman will not be a live-service game after all

DC fans who were concerned that the new Wonder Woman game from Monolith would include service elements can apparently rest easy now because Warner Bros. has stated that this is not the case. The publisher of the Wonder Woman game addressed rumors about live service elements being incorporated into the game this week after a job listing was discovered that requested experience with “a live software product or game.” That job listing, combined with recent comments from Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav about these types of service games, made it appear as if the Wonder Woman game would have some sort of live service component, but Warner Bros. says that is not the case.

Warner Bros. provided clarification to IGN in a statement about the Wonder Woman game and what the publisher intends for it to be as well as what it will not be.

“Wonder Woman is a single-player action-adventure game set in a dynamic open world,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said. “This third person experience will allow players to become Diana of Themyscira and introduce an original story set in the DC Universe, while also featuring the Nemesis System. Wonder Woman is not being designed as a live service.”

The job posting that sparked all of this speculation is still up, and “Experience helping maintain a live software product or game” is still listed in the “Nice to Haves” section.

In addition to this job listing implying that the game could have included these service elements, Warner Bros.’s comments and intentions regarding its games only added to the validity of those speculations. After all, there’s the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game, which will have a cosmetic-focused battle pass for some reason. And, during the most recent Warner Bros. earnings call, Zaslav hinted that these live service goals will not be abandoned anytime soon.

“Our focus is on transforming our biggest franchises from largely console and PC based with three-four year release schedules to include more always on gameplay through live services, multiplatform and free-to-play extensions with the goal to have more players spending more time on more platforms,” he added. “Ultimately we want to drive engagement and monetization of longer cycles and at higher levels.”

So, when will the Wonder Woman game be released if it is a single-player game based on the original story? Unfortunately for those looking forward to Wonder Woman’s moment in the spotlight, Warner Bros.’ comments to dispel rumours are the most we’ve heard about the game in quite some time. It was first announced in 2021, with Monolith, the developer of games such as Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and others, in charge of its development. There is no release date for the game, nor is there a time frame for its release, with only the description below to go on for now.

“The single player open-world action game will introduce an original story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world,” a preview of the game mentioned. “Powered by the Nemesis System, players will forge deep connections with both enemies and allies as they progress from a heroic fighter into a proven leader.”
