It seems like there’s a possibility of Archaeology coming back to the game
In The War Within and the Worldsoul Saga, World of Warcraft made hints about the potential return of Archaeology. The game is looking into ways to revive this profession, which has been abandoned for more than seven years without updates, even though it may differ from its previous version.
With the addition of archaeology as a secondary profession in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, players can find relics, gain knowledge of lore, accomplish objectives, and acquire exclusive mounts and cosmetics.
Unfortunately, Archaeology was left unaltered for over seven years as there were no additions to the profession in any of the later expansions, such as Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands, or Dragonflight.
The War Within’s game director, Ion Hazzikostas, acknowledged players’ wish for the return of Archaeology in a recent BlizzCon Q&A video, which starts at 13:20.
“When we look at Archaeology, we understand the desire for, and the interest in, both the fantasy of uncovering and unearthing aspects of Azeroth’s history and the cultures that have lived here for centuries or thousands of years. We’re looking for different vehicles, different outlets, for that gameplay and those rewards.”
The possible return of Archaeology in World of Warcraft is much anticipated by fans. Its disappearance in Battle for Azeroth left many players disappointed, especially considering its potential in areas like Kul Tiras, Zandalar, and Nazjatar.
Players now have new hope for a new approach to Archaeology in future updates, even if it won’t be precisely as it was before, despite the lack of a revival in the most recent expansion.
