The meditation app “Calm” has teamed up with Xbox to bring you calming soundscapes from your favourite games to relax to.

Microsoft has announced a partnership with Xbox and Calm that will, for the first time, add soundscapes with video game themes to the calm app.

Calm is a meditation and sleep app that produces guided meditations and sleep stories on its subscription-based app.

“Calm” was Apple’s “App of the year” in 2017. And was also ranked by “Inc” as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America in 2018.

Two new soundscapes based on Sea of Thieves and Halo Infinite are now accessible to Calm Premium subscribers. These can be used as background music for sleeping or general relaxation.

The official press release stated:

”Calm premium users can “enjoy the meditative sounds of whirling waves and chattering birds from the ocean expanse of Sea of Thieves and the ambient alien sounds of Zeta Halo from Halo Infinite.”

The Calm subscription will usually set you back about $69.99 (R1200) a year. Or a once-off lifetime membership for $399.99 (R6850.00).

Xbox Ultimate subscribers can try it for three months for free and thereafter pay a 50% less fee for one year. This will only be available for new Calm subscribers though.

This new collaboration is part of an initiative by Xbox to push support for its player’s mental health.  Xbox did a recent survey whereby 54% of the participants said they used video games to relieve stress.

Xbox Game Studio The Coalition has committed to giving 1% of net revenue from Gears games to organizations that prevent suicide and loneliness. The Coalition is donating to Crisis Text Line this year.

Additionally, Xbox has curated a set of games on Game Pass that provide a relaxing escape or address mental health issues. Persona 5 Royal, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Unpacking, and Stardew Valley are among the games on the list.

You can currently play the games in this collection on Xbox, Windows, Mobile, and the Cloud.
