Xbox Fans Are Not Happy With Microsoft’s New Policy

There’s been a lot of negative feedback since the news surrounding Microsoft’s new policy

After the news broke of the upcoming policy, and Xbox console users who started receiving the error warning there’s been a lot of negative feedback. We covered the upcoming policy and the warning that users will receive if the system detects unauthorized third-party apps. Now according to Microsoft reports, this isn’t a means to get rid of third-party apps, they plan on expanding their program for approved third-party devices.

That in itself is good news. It broadens the market and offers a larger shopping choice to look at, especially when your budget is limited. The downside here is, that third-party devices that aren’t authorized or approved will trigger this warning message.

The impact isn’t massive all around, albeit two major areas will be affected. The FPS genre and then the fighting genre of games, which has an even bigger community than the FPS genre.

Due to how these games play they attract a larger third-party device audience. Whether you play fighting games seriously or competitively the chances are high that you’re using a third-party device and the chances of it being approved are very slim.

With that being said, the news didn’t go down well with everyone. Players from the fighting community took this news as an almost death sentence for the genre on the Xbox consoles.

A lot of Gamers in the fighting genre don’t use a controller for their gameplay, they make use of an arcade stick which essentially allows them to perform their combos easier and more accurately than a controller. Similar to where players playing racing games and vehicle-based games use a steering wheel and pedals. Maximillian Doo, a popular YouTube fighting Gamer pretty much pleaded with Microsoft to reconsider their decision.

“Heyo Phil Spencer, Xbox, and Matt Booty,” said Maximillian. “This is essentially a death sentence for local fighting game events that run on Xbox, much less, others that can only afford one arcade stick. The Brook Gaming converters are not cheat devices. They’re a huge boon to the FGC. Please reconsider!”

Maximillian isn’t the only one calling out Microsoft for their new policy. There’s been outcries all over social media from a variety of gamers. Thus far Microsoft has not responded to any of these social posts.

It can go either way, to be honest. Microsoft could decide to reverse its decision and abandon its new policy. This is a choice they made once before. However, given that this policy will also reduce the number of cheaters in games, the chances that this policy will be reversed are slim.
