A Brilliant mixture of action, strategy and in an Anti Tower Defense game, that’s right you are the attacker here.
Some key points that this game offers:
- Commander/ Hero Unit with special abilities.
- Campaign Mode and Extra Game Modes.
- PC Touch screen support.
- Brilliant visuals.
- Indie Gem 4/5
Gameplay & Controls:
The controls are pretty much straightforward. The entire game can be played and enjoyed with your mouse, left click mouse button doing most for the work as usual and the right click mouse button used to choose your special abilities. There are a few keyboard keys that get used for the gameplay and a few shortcuts to make gameplay easier.
A neat feature is that the game support Windows Tap/ Touch screens, so if you have the hardware you can enjoy that too.
The game plays off in a near futuristic Earth with Aliens who have invaded earth, setting up turret towers in all major cities. You lead a Commander with an armour column into the fray to take down these towers. You have a variety of Tanks that can be bought and upgraded to help you on your missions; along with these formidable tanks come a few special abilities that your commander can use to turn the tide in battle.
Graphics:
The visuals are simply fantastic, they are colourful, bright and truly a pleasure to behold. The animated destruction as you cause or receive truly sets the scene here as you witness how they break down piece by piece. The smoke and fire clouds from the destroyed buildings and such adds to the war theme here of an invaded city.
A lot of attention went into creating a very visually appealing game here, all elements are really drawn well and a pure joy to behold, and no matter if it’s your units, enemy towers or the surrounding areas, they are all beautifully created.
On the settings side of things, the game supports a wide range of resolutions and has the option for you to set the GFX Quality. It may seem limited but this is one beautiful game.
Sounds:
Every mission feels unique, and it is more than partially due to the sound, from the in-game sounds, to the actual music, the entire atmosphere that the music creates makes the gameplay feel so much more real and enjoyable. In all honesty it’s like an atmospheric masterpiece, the combination really created something beautiful here, and it is pure bliss to enjoy it as you ride forth to save humanity.
On the settings side of things, we have full Volume Control over these settings, so you can customize it as you see fit.
Replayability:
Anomaly: Warzone Earth offers a Campaign mode with three difficulties and a scoring system; this alone will keep you busy for a while to score gold on all missions. Other than campaign mode two extra Assault modes are there to further test your abilities against and then an Extra’s feature with more for you to do, so plenty replayability right here.
MGRza Conclusions:
Spoilers ahead:
Anomaly: Warzone Earth off the bat is a reverse Tower Defense game, instead of erecting the towers and defending your positions, you are the attacking force that attacks the towers. I can tell you right here and now that this is immensely different than regular Tower Defense games, so I suggest you do thorough research to see if you would actually enjoy this game, it really takes getting used to.
The game has somewhat of a learning curve, but that is mainly you getting used to the form of gameplay, the enemy tower types and then your commander abilities. The game really has a lot of strategic elements to it, and requires some thinking to clear the missions. Your tactical map is your friend and making use of it really does help the outcome of the battles.
When it comes down to the digits, this is quite a fun and enjoyable game, once you get into the groove of things. There are aspects that could have been better for this type of game, but as it stands it really is a gem.
