Welcome
The time of your life 2.0 starts here.

Gameplay & Controls:

Everything we loved about Borderlands is still right here with loads of improvements, the controls are all pretty much the same as you remembered so getting right back into action shouldn’t be any issue, however there are loads of new settings and options to customize and enhance your Pandorian experience.

The gameplay: Sometimes the sequels simply do not live up to their predecessor, but this is not the case here, there isn’t a single aspect of this game that hasn’t been thoroughly enhanced, improved or made better than what we had with the original, your entire experience will be better than before, new technology plus a dedicated team made sure to bring us the best Pandorian experience to date.

Bandits
Plenty of new Bandit variants for you to play with.

One of the favourable in game happenings is as you play the game you learn more about Pandora itself, your knowledge in the universe gets too grow, and to me this is always a plus, I enjoy the story and lore behind a game more than I do most other elements except for gameplay and quality itself. The gameplay is the same fun experience we had with the original, but again enhanced and improved, much better looking and much more entertaining, new hunters, new enemies and tons of new areas to explore.

This time around we explore Pandora on an even larger scale from the icy shores right through to the lava filled Bad Lands… As the trailer suggested there are countless new weapons and gear for you to scavenge, from common right through to legendary, numerous new bosses to face off against and a boat load of side quests. All of this can be done solo or co-op with some mates. If you recall Borderlands has an insane number of weapons and gear to make use of, well Borderlands 2 makes that number seem like a drop in the bucket, they really went all out in every aspect of this Badass sequel! You are in for one wild ride.

Dragon
There be Dragons here.

Graphics:

Let’s start on the options side of things, it has been completely reworked and improved, we can set and control pretty much every aspect of the game so that it can run on pretty much very old machines without hassle or we can tune it up to maximum to really make Pandora look like the perfect getaway retreat.

To start the settings menu off, we can either set it to auto detect the best settings for us, or we can manually set it up, from Vsync, Resolution sizes, Anisotropic filtering, game and view detail and several other options to really enhance your Pandora.

Fire
Showdown at Lava lake!

The end results make for one insanely beautiful planet just waiting for some mayhem, and destruction. Just like with the original we have a beautiful open world planet that features partly apocalyptic looking landscape, whilst looking partially uninhabited by people, making for a spectacular setting as we explore Pandora in newly created regions and areas, all these areas were beautifully crafted with amazing details.

Whether it is your characters themselves, the levels, the in-game objects, NPC or bosses, each have their stunningly beautiful look and feel, just like we had with Borderlands, an incredible amount of attention to detail was invested into this game. The distance feel where items from far away seem blurry and out of range and as you come closer they become clearer as they come into focus, they have improved so much on that mechanic, making it seem and feel like a marvel to behold and experience; as you play you get to fully explore and imagine yourself in each of these beautifully crafted landscapes.

Flight
Is that a bird, or a plane? Nah, its just Sanctuary floating there.

Sounds:

We already have one Badass great game and making matters even more Badass is this totally amazing soundtrack that really adds on perfectly to this game making it even better. The music really sets the mood for each scene and adventure you find yourself in, whether its bandit killing, or animal extermination, you have the accompanying tunes to really set that mood.

Every aspect of this game has its own sound, noise and background music bringing life to Pandora like never before, whether it’s the animals or bandits, they are all unique in their own way scripted with lines making them unique.

Monster
One hell of a fight!

Actions such as running, jumping and just standing around all have their own voice prompts or sounds to accompany the specific action. Pandora really feels alive with the attention to detail that has been invested here. On the settings side we have full control to change how we go about experiencing all that Pandora has to offer, whether we are setting bandits alight or melting their faces off. I did say that Pandora is Badass…

Replayability:

Just like we had with Borderlands where when the game is finished, we unlock the new game plus mode where we start the game again on True Vault Hunter mode which offers the game with an increased difficulty level.

Pig
Here little piggy…

So yeah replayability exists here as well, we can replay the game with different characters; whether it is to simply find things we didn’t find on our initial playthrough or to grind and farm legendary gear pieces and weapons, the game offers a multitude of reasons to play it again, and again, especially to grind out those badass challenges for that insanely Badass passive enhancement, or to go about finding all those secret Easter eggs and secret bosses they have added to the game.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers ahead:

If you read my Borderlands review you’d recall I spoke about a certain feeling that the game awoke in you: Well it is back like it never went anywhere at all, the allure Pandora holds, the possibilities, the adventure… and you just want to be there yourself, that feeling like it’s been the missing part of your life, it’s all right here, so be prepared for an adventure like no other!

Thresher
Just look at this beauty.

You start the game with your train being blown up in an attempt by Handsome Jack to kill you; clearly that failed and our road to vengeance blood, carnage and mayhem starts, we are greeted by our favourite robot Clappy and from there he gets us on our way as we start our journey.

Angel is back at it again offering you help and guidance on your journey. You will meet, greet and kill several new characters as you set out to explore Pandora.

Varkid
One of the new species on Pandora!

As I mentioned in the above topics, every aspect of this game has been greatly enhanced, we have everything we loved about Borderlands, what they did was take all of that and upgraded its look, feel and added tons of new content whether it was new enemies, locations, items or general gameplay quality, Borderlands 2 has it all, one of the best games ever made in my opinion. Borderland 2 offers a unique and amazing Bullet Hell RPG experience, that no one ever thought could be this fun, this great and this Badass!
