Dying Light: The Following Review

It’s bigger and just as amazing as Dying Light, with a dash of new carnage and possibilities…

Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Base game

Some key points that this game add on has to offer:

  1. New Skill Trees
  2. Massive New Region
  3. New Gameplay Mechanics
  4. Your very own Buggy for absolute Zombie Carnage…
A
A new journey awaits…

Replayability:

You make use of your same save file that you use in the campaign of Dying Light. That means everything that you have earned and accomplished goes with you to The Following. The Following boasts a truly massive playable area that is bigger than the base game itself. To aid in the exploration of this massive area you get access to your own Zombie Killing Buggy. Vehicular combat is the next best thing in The Following. It comes with its own levelling system that you level up by driving around and partake in new vehicle-based challenges… Don’t forget you get experience for every zombie you run over too…

Need
Need for Speed!

Customize, upgrade and paint your buggy to your liking… A better turbo means more boost, a superior engine allows you to outrun anything and suspension for better handling… This buggy has it all, you just need to find it. To sweeten the pot, even more, is equipment that you can install onto your buggy such as a UV Light or an electric charge to aid you in a tight spot.

All this for…

Carnage
Carnage awaits…

There seems to be some hope after all! A way out of the city and some mysterious clue of immunity against the infection… This new found hope puts Crane on a path to find this way out and seek this supposed cure… Nothing is ever easy and the people in the country side doesn’t take well to newcomers, so you got to earn their trust first! Introducing a new trust system as well. Increase your standing and reputation among the locals and with the Faceless by completing quests for them and making the countryside a bit safer… The more they trust you the more you will learn and unravel this mystery…

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

A brilliant addition to an already brilliant game. The Following lacks quite a bit of the parkour charm that the base game has to offer. However, they more than make up for that with the new vehicle based combat. The Country side is just as dangerous and this time around, with new Freaks that are just waiting to end you… Adding to the dangers are Volatile nests which are a new lethal add on to the game… The countryside has an increased Volatile population that you can wind down by destroying their nests. Dangerous but rewarding. Powerful new weapons and gear can be acquired in the country side as well.

There are numerous side quests that you can partake in, each fun and entertaining in their own right… These will reward you with new gear and XP to help rank up your trust. Just like before, the scripting here is so well written that you cannot help but pay close attention to what everyone is saying and going through… It is the apocalypse after all!

Into
Into the belly of the best…

The Followings story line is brilliant, harsh, and actually quite realistic which I found even more harsh but understandable. As before they did an amazing job writing the story lines, it pulls you in, and once it gets hold of you, it just doesn’t let go…

If you enjoyed Dying Light thus far, then this is one must have add on, it is going to blow you away!
