HERO DEFENSE Review

Are you looking for an adventure? Step right up. You are in for one wild ride!

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Strong RPG Mechanics
  2. Brilliant Campaign mode
  3. Online PvP
  4. Indie Gem 5/5
Welcome
Just look at this coy little town.

Gameplay & Controls:

The game is playable with your keyboard and mouse; it can be played with your mouse only, however the shortcuts that the keyboard offers make the game much more comfortable and easier to manage.

What we have here is a Tower Defense game mixed with some other elements and mechanics, blended together beautifully to deliver us a fresh new variant of Tower Defense game.

As you play levels your Heroes gain XP and level up; Every time they level up, they receive skill points which you can use to unlock and upgrade their abilities. You have a home base that consists of a few Town buildings, all of which can be upgraded to grant powerful bonuses to your Heroes along with several other added effects to make your journey easier.

Begun
It has begun!

Each Hero can be quipped with special runes granting them additional powers and effects. Their weapons can be upgraded as well to increase the damage they do.

This little gem has all this and so much more, however to avoid spoiling all that it has to offer I’m leaving it at that!

Graphics:

Absolutely gorgeous; for an Indie game of this scale it has been created pretty stunningly. Level design was done very neatly with a lot of creativity invested into each level. The game has a Halloween theme about it and the developers did a fantastic job to represent and maintain it throughout the game.

Coffin
What might be inside that loot crate?

Hero design was done just as spectacularly; each of our Heroes are unique in their appearances and behaviours.

Under the hood we have some settings to customize our game as well.

Sounds:

The background music has been implemented quite well, adding to the theme of the game and enhancing it quite beautifully. Character voice acting has been done just as well, giving each of our characters a realistic appearance.

Dracula
The beast has shown itself.

Background sounds for the entire game have been created and implemented into the game as well, giving it a life of its own, and adding to the nature and theme that the game creates so beautifully.

Replayability:

Each level can be replayed on a higher difficulty for extra rewards. Each level can give you a total of four stars. Replaying a level also has the option of activating extra challenges which further increases the difficulty of the level but also grants the player extra rewards which can be used to upgrade the town and their Heroes weapons.

Once you’ve had your fill of the campaign you can take things online and test out your skills there.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers ahead:

Hero defense is something new and quite different, but in all the right ways. They went and gambled quite a bit, mixing these mechanics together and it paid off. The final product is a marvel that can be very addictive and replayed over and over.

Waves
There is no end to them!

The story line is easy to follow yet quite memorable and fun to experience. The levelling system for your Heroes is another very unique add on giving you a very new take on strategic planning for a Tower defense game.

The game has a bit of grind behind it but as long as you play it at your own leisure and pace it should not get too ‘grindy’…

All in all, a very decent game that any Tower Defense fan should give a try.

We have made it!
