Aesthetics:

Noticeably Razer from the very first glance at this beauty. Sleek lines and classic looks, the design on the Razer Kraken is minimalistic and pleasing to the eyes for those who like that obviously understated look.

This particular model has no RGB or lighting of any kind which some people will enjoy as the lights can be distracting for some. This headset is meant for gamers on a budget so they reflect this by not having any fancy-schmancy features here we have just the classic essentials with onboard controls, boom mic, and 7.1 surround sound.

Packaged Beautifully

The headset itself is plain and black, with a honeycomb design on the earpieces and the familiar Razer logo. For enhanced comfort, there is a padded headband that is very simplistically designed.

Overall, a nice-looking headset that isn’t too flashy or gaudy and I recommend this headset for those who like it classic and elegant.

Comfort:

As for comfort, I found these headsets to be light and pretty comfortable for prolonged periods. They fit pretty snugly over the ears with the oval foam cups being soft and cushy. They are adjustable for those with larger heads and also smaller. The foam cups are unfortunately not user-replaceable which could put some people off but the headset has a limited two-year warranty.

I personally have many piercings in my ears so need a larger cup for over my ears but I didn’t have any discomfort as such.

They also contain hidden eyewear channels, which make these headsets more comfortable to wear with glasses because they alleviate temple pressure.

What a beauty

Durability:

Made of high-quality materials which we have become accustomed to with Razer products, although these are “budget” headsets they were built to last longer than other “budget” headsets. The headband and slider are made of a very durable thermoplastic called Polycarbonate-ABS meaning that they will last you.

For its price class, the quality and durability of this headset can rival many gaming headsets out there today. Both the cable and the splitter have a handy rubber tie mechanism that can be quickly removed and replaced to keep your cords nice, tidy, and safe. The cables themselves are comprised of a long-lasting, very durable material that bends readily and does not kink.

User Friendly & Functionality:

As easy as plug it in and play there is also software you can download for the 7.1 feature included with the Kraken X. If you have separate Mic and audio inputs they have included a splitter for easy adaptation.

These headsets are cross platform and can be used on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.

The mic can be positioned in many different positions for ease of use. Because the sound is sensitive and will take up breath sounds and other ambient noises, you’ll have to adjust the position of your mic to your liking to avoid this.

From the left ear cup, you can easily access the volume dial and microphone mute switch.

You’ll need a PC running Windows 10 64-bit to properly appreciate the 7.1 surround sound, and Razer will offer you with a complimentary download code as well.

The sound is clear and concise with an emphasis on bass tones as with most gaming headsets. Because these headphones aren’t noise cancelling, you’ll hear ambient noises, so if you require privacy in a game, a noisy room isn’t the best option.

The mic is also clear and voices can be heard clearly.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

Our conclusion is that if you want a flashy fancy gaming headset that has no issues then you will have to pay more. This headset is classic, elegant, and comes with the basic features that every gamer needs and the 7.1 makes this a standout from many other budget headsets in its price range.

When it comes to music, the sound quality isn’t great, but it works well in-game, which is after all what a gaming headset is bought for.

If you want a gaming headset with USB and RGB that is more comfortable and has better sound, look at the Cooler Master MH650 Gaming Headset, which is approximately the same price. Have a look at our review here.
