Prepare yourselves for the Wild West in Outer Space…
Some key points that this game offers:
- Stunning Country-Western Sound Track.
- Massive Open World.
- Be the Pirate or Pirate hunter you’ve always wanted to be.
- Tons of swashbuckling adventure.
Gameplay & Controls:
The controls for the game are fairly simple, however it will take some getting used to the combat mechanics. We have access to our trusty keyboard and mouse or if you want you can take things personal with a game controller, Rebel Galaxy offers full controller support.
The game handles and runs beautifully, the manoeuvring scales and differs based on the ship you use; however, it remains and feels accurate and very realistic.
The same can be said for the rest of the game, especially the combat sequences, the way it plays out; you can’t just ‘run and gun’ careful aiming needs to be taken into consideration before randomly firing your broadsides, friendly fire is a thing here. Incoming damage taken depletes your shield on the sides where the damage is received, when its depleted your hull starts taking damage and that is when things get serious. Too much damage and that high noon clock tower gongs and you drew to slow partner.
The gameplay, is absolutely amazing, we have massive open star systems to explore, mine and scavenge from and that is not all. Take on numerous side quests from the outposts in each system. Side quests such as picking up items or escorting vessels, build up your reputation with the guilds that populate the areas by doing quests for them.
The more quests you complete, the more asteroids you mine and sell the more credits you make, and credits are very useful here. Repair your ship, refill the ordinance you used on your enemies, buy better weapon and onboard systems for your vessel or upgrade to a better and stronger vessel.
Graphics:
Stating that the game looks beautiful is an understatement, for an open world environment of this size, the visuals are simply spectacular. The vibrant colours in each system have been amazingly implemented to constantly grant us amazing visuals that not only enhances our gameplay but captivates you, you literally stop your ship just to admire these views.
The same treatment was given to all the objects that populate the systems, asteroids all have unique forms, shapes and drifting patterns. Ship designs, layout and looks are just as gorgeous, one literally admires our steel steeds, it would have been nice if we had the option to add some personal flare to them.
Character portraits, ship wreckages and every other minor detail was just as carefully designed to offer us one beautiful game.
Under the hood there is a wide variety of settings to fully customize how the game runs.
Sounds:
This game is already pretty awesome, the music and in game sounds add to and further increases the awesomeness of this game.
Every little aspect has an accompanying sound that adds to the liveliness of the game, battles feel and sound so real, cruising through space with the Hyper Drive active sounds remarkably realistic. All of this sets the tone for exploration or pirate hunting to such a state that you can’t help but lose yourself in this game.
Last but not least is the amazing Country-Western music, it builds the games atmosphere to new heights that really increases the overall quality of the game, plus it makes for one fine and fun game session. The sounds were carefully chosen, but perfectly implemented.
Replayability:
The game offers a wide variety of side quests to keep you busy for hours, to gain access to those top tier ships will require several fortunes worth of credits, but there is plenty to do to earn those credits. Side Quests, Pirate Hunting, mining and so much more.
The game may not offer that much in the replay category but just playing it will keep you busy for days and that is enough.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
When it comes down to the numbers Rebel Galaxy is one of the best Space Exploration games for its time, few other games come close to offer what Rebel Galaxy does.
Those that enjoyed Freelancer were actively searching for a sequel or something similar that offered the experience that Freelancer did, and at the time that was not an easy task, few other games came close to Freelancer, however Rebel galaxy feels like that Sequel even though it isn’t.
For the price that this beauty sells at, it is a must have game for any Space Gamer. It is something you will adore.
