  4. Crafting: Craft different equipment pieces for your Hero’s.
Start
At the bottom is where we start!

Gameplay & Controls:

The game is played with keyboard and mouse; however, the entire game can be played with the mouse only.  As per usual the keyboard has numerous shortcut and quick key buttons to make playing the game much more comfortable.

The game is a Dungeons and Dragons board game come to life. All our actions are decided by the RNG of the dice…

This story takes place on a deadly peninsula with one mission, Reverse the Death Curse. We will be traveling through jungles, dungeons and other deadly locations as we work towards ending this terrible curse.

Die
Roll the die.

To do this we have a party of heroes, each equipped with their own deadly arsenal of weapon attacks and special abilities. They are equipped with all the tools we need to end the evil reign of Acererak and bring peace again to the region. As we quest, we will find chests that reward us with powerful items and crafting materials. These items will help turn the tide in the battles to come. The materials can be used to upgrade our hero’s equipment to higher tier versions offering better protection and other bonuses.

Each level is randomly generated to offer us a unique and fresh battle ground, once we start a level our hero or heroes start on one tile and from there we move heroes towards the edge of that tile and when that heroes phase ends a new tile will appear where they ended their phase and a random encounter may pop up, its success and outcome is determined by a dice throw.

Battles take place in turn based style; you have one action point and one move point. When they have been depleted you end your heroes’ phase and the next phase starts, either being your next hero’s phase or a monster on the field.

Fight
Careful planning ensures victory!

The game offers a very enjoyable campaign and with it comes just as many fun and rewarding side quests. Each level can be replayed as many times as you wish. There are three difficulties that the game offers all in one campaign playthrough, when you feel that your heroes are strong enough to take on a previously completed level on a higher difficulty, you can play it on the selected higher difficulty. Higher difficulties reward more gold and xp upon successful completion.

Graphics:

The game offers a beautifully created world for us, that is vibrant in colour and very captivating to play in. Each area has numerous small placements that offer more to see and enjoy enhancing the game experience.

Hold
Hold the line.

Character design was done marvelously offering us very unique and beautiful heroes. Monster design was done just as beautifully, each creature looks very realistic and lifelike with unique characteristics to further enhance our experience.

we have numerous options to customize our game.

Sounds:

Spectacular, the soundtrack for the game really brings out that tranquil board game feeling. The music is very soothing and so relaxing that it easily allows you to lose yourself in this game for hours upon hours.

Loot
Treasure!

Background sounds add life to everything, the monsters we face off against, the levels we battle on, all the small sounds and noises add life to the game, increasing its overall quality.

Replayability:

The game has several achievements, none of which requires too much fuss to complete, however they do need you to craft every piece of gear for every character which might take some time to complete but given that you need to complete every mission on all three difficulties will make the grind feel less boring when working towards this.

Surrounded
He is done for.

Other than that, Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation is a very fun and relaxing game to play and enjoy which is perfect for the gamer who just wants to sit back and play something relaxing.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

When it comes down to the numbers, Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation is simply a marvel of a game. They did a fantastic job of bringing a board game to life. The gameplay is smooth and very entertaining.

Victory
Victory will be ours.

There is plenty of fun to be had and at the price it sells for makes it a must buy for any fan or newcomer to the genre.

As it stands the game plays beautifully and is a work of art, sure it does feel a tad short and personally I would have wanted more RPG elements and greater freedom to collect and craft items, but this game is a perfect start to much greater future potential games.

Careful
Strategic thinking is required!
