A time management game that’s Halloween themed, a massive plus to the lovers of alternative lifestyles and Halloween lovers.
Some key points that this game offers:
- Several boat loads of missions to complete.
- Comic book style story scenes.
- Halloween themed gameplay.
- Halloween themed characters.
- Six locations that you will naturally unlock.
- Learn as you play tutorial.
Gameplay & Controls:
The controls are fairly simple, you mainly use your mouse to click on one of your characters to pick them up and then click again on the building or resource you want them to work on. As you move to the edges of the screen your screen moves with, you can use the directional keys to move the screen, which is uncomfortable with the way we use the mouse, I have not found any way to rebind those keys.
The gameplay itself is just as simple, you have your little spot in the afterlife where you start building homes and a livelihood for the newly dead as they arrive, with each new soul arriving it increases your workforce by one. You use your workers to collect food and other material resources so that you can build a variety of buildings such as houses.
The materials are also used to research technologies to make life a bit easier for you and to unlock newer buildings and recipes. The game also has a basic crafting system where you have to craft higher tier goods of specific items, mainly for research or building purposes.
Graphics:
The details of this game are beautifully done, from the world you play in to the characters you control. A lot of effort went into delivering us a beautiful game with vibrant colours coming together very decently with the afterlife theme.
On the settings side we have full resolution options with a number of resolutions to choose from, along with full screen and window mode options. The game is also optimized giving us several quality levels to choose from.
Sounds:
The game has very soothing background music that further increases the fun factor of the simulation. It has numerous sounds and noises that accompany the gameplay, also increasing the overall decency of this game.
On the options side we have full volume control over the music and sound.
Replayability:
This is where the game falls a bit short; it is a rather short game in itself that can easily be finished. It isn’t a lengthy game with a massive campaign, by the time your little slice of paradise is done so is the game therefore leaving you wanting more.
Don’t get me wrong every second spent in this game will be memorable and very enjoyable.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
The Happy Hereafter is a very casual simulator where you manage the newly dead as they arrive in The Happy Hereafter, your task is to build a home for them all to live, keeping them fed by either picking up food from forgeable bushes or farming them once unlocked. As you increase your research you will unlock a kitchen where higher quality foods can be collected, you workers eat automatically as they get hungry.
You also have access to magic which you can use to boost your workers speed to get things done a bit faster. The goal of the game is to build yourself a little paradise there in the underworld: This is done by gathering resources to expand your buildings and research newer ones and means to gather better and more resources.
As you unlock higher research, access to specific buildings are unlocked that makes life easier such as a circus which boosts your workers happiness. The game has numerous extras that it has to offer you. As you play you unlock more landscapes you visit that offers new looks and characters to interact with. With each unlocked landscape new resources can be gathered from there. So as the game plays on so does the progress of your little paradise.
