Undead Horde will keep you glued for days on end!
Some key points that this game offers:
- Endless Replay Value
- Tons of Weapons and Gear
- Gorgeous in its simplicity
- Addictive fun that simply doesn’t end
Gameplay & Controls:
Undead Horde can be played with the keyboard and mouse or controller when you are playing on PC. Both methods work perfectly well here. The controls for the game itself are pretty simple, given the game type and mechanics. As a top down hack and slash, we would presume that we click here and there to move about, however things are a lot more interactive than that. We use the WSAD keys to move our Necromancer and the mouse controls the direction it is facing whilst moving,
At first glance, this may seem like some oversight, but it adds to the challenge of the game. Instead of making it a thoughtless click and hold button that does all the fighting, you need to manually face which enemies you are fighting with whilst clicking the mouse to land strikes. This creates a more interactive role with the game that enhances both the quality and experience that it delivers.
The rest of the controls are pretty straightforward and tied to shortcuts. Control your army by sending them, forth to attack in the direction of your choice or command them back to your side by the push of the button. We have an alternative attack as well and ability uses through items that can be equipped.
The feel behind Undead Horde is that of leisurely sitting back and enjoying a fun filled adventure that doesn’t require too much effort or critical responses, which is perfect.
Undead Horde is a game about vengeance, you once ruled these lands until a goody two shoes Paladin trapped you and stripped you of your power! Broken free from this trap you set out on a journey to claim back what is rightfully yours. To aid you on your journey is an endless undead army. You can pretty much reanimate anything you kill. Be it humans, orcs, or animals. In life they were against you, in death they serve you. One region at a time you will invade and conquer by burning down every building and slaughtering every living creature that inhabits it.
As your journey continues enemies get tougher and tougher, but as you lay waste to them, you level up increasing in power and command. The higher your command the more undead you can summon to your side.
Graphics:
It might not be the best looking game out there, but it more than makes up for that in fun and enjoyment. The visuals aren’t terribly bad either. They are unique and pretty in their own way. The lighting, shadows, and colours are pretty neat and quite beautifully implemented to enhance the overall quality of the game.
Under the settings menu, we have some settings to customize the visuals for the game.
Sounds:
A real winner, the sounds and music for the game really brings life to this Undead game. Your Necromancer has some decent voice over work that is befitting of a Necromancer, albeit, a few more lines here and there would have further added to his personality.
Replayability:
You revisit any region you previously played. This is done because, there are also numerous secrets and treasures hidden throughout each region for you to find. Destroying every building and slaying all the living also gives you the deed to those ‘lands’ that you reconquered.
Last but not least is the “Start New Era” feature. Once you completed the final mission, you travel back to your crypt where you can start a new era. This is pretty much New Game +. You keep your levels and gear, and start on a new higher difficulty that is more challenging and rewarding.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:
An Indie Gem through and through! Undead Horde is highly underrated for what it offers. There are incredible fun and intuitive mechanics present in the game. The character’s Gear is quite remarkably well balanced to ensure that the game never becomes dull or too much for you.
The fact that you can reanimate almost anything you kill really adds variety to your game. This includes Bosses and Hero’s. So, to put it frankly, your undead Army can consist of some powerful Hero and Boss characters only if you wish so. They do have a higher command cost, but they more than make up for that in power.
The story line is rather simple, but it keeps the game on track and the missions throughout the game ensures that you won’t get lost or lose purpose. As simple as this game might seem, a lot of thought went into making sure it offers you a very memorable experience. The only way this game could be better, was if they were able to add co-op to it.
Other than that Undead Horde has tons to offer and then some.
