Gameplay & Controls:
A point and click game through and through the controls are very user friendly and easy to use. The controls run smoothly and are very responsive. The gameplay is very enjoyable and there is always something happening to hold your interest.
The hint system is simple to use and penalty-free as long as you can wait the short time it takes to recharge. The game is based on an evil witch who is hellbent on acquiring a husband.
She kidnaps various princes from their respective kingdoms, through her magic mirror portal, and when they deny her, she turns them into frogs. Your mission is to help free these princes from her evil spell by following the clues and solving the various fun puzzles.
This game is a lot of fun to play and the puzzles vary in difficulty which means it will reach a wide audience and if you are too stuck you could always fast forward the puzzle but they really are not too difficult if you just take the time to try and try again.
The story is so rich and lively that you become entangled in the story of these poor frog princes and their unfortunate plight. You will journey through the mirror portal to the prince’s various kingdoms and explore each kingdom to solve the clues that will help you progress.
To help you navigate these kingdoms the frog princes in their froggy form accompany you and help you with the various tasks put before you.
Graphics:
The graphics are beautiful, with a side of creepy fun. Think classic fairy-tale if it was written by Tim Burton. Each separate location within each kingdom is unique and absolutely gorgeous to behold.
This game has so much attention to detail, from the fluffy sheep and muddy pigs in their pens, to the oceans with weird and wonderful creatures that dwell within, to the dwarves that occupy the underground mines warts and all, hours of fun await you here.
The colours and textures are so engaging it makes this a game to remember. Shaman Games outdid themselves and their hard work is evident in every scene and area you visit. Each NPC has their own personality even if they don’t speak, you truly get a sense of each one’s character and likability.
Sounds:
The sounds and music for this game are extremely well done and give a cute and enchanting atmosphere to this adorable little fantasy world. They are simplistic but effective and help to immerse you into the fantasy itself.
Every little detail has its own sound, from the popping swamp bubbles in the main menu to the moving and creaking of items when you click on them. The team at Shaman Games really did think of every aspect when designing the soundtrack for this super fun game.
Replayability:
Puzzle Games aren’t always known for Replayability, but I must say that this one was really fun and I will be playing it again because of this fact. It does have a bonus stage that was just as fun as the main game and followed on exactly from the story line of the game just as if it were an encore.
You will enjoy this game just as much as if you were playing it for the first time, it really is that fun.
MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
I was pleasantly surprised by Witch’s Pranks: Frog’s Fortune Collector’s Edition. It is a fun exciting and has so many aspects and facets to it and each of the various kingdoms you explore. This game will knock your socks off, especially if you enjoy puzzles and adventure.
The puzzles are not too difficult but enough that they are challenging and not too difficult that you will lose interest. I was especially impressed at the size of the game; it has a lot to do and see and just when you think it’s over there is more to do.
Each of the clues is logical and easy to understand, but if you do have a stuck moment you can just press the hint button and get a push in the right direction.
This game is fun right to the very end and even after the bonus game it leaves you wanting more, which is exactly how it should be.
As this is the Collector’s Edition, they have added some extra goodies for us namely a choice of whimsical Screensavers, some beautiful Wallpapers to choose from, and even several pieces of their concept art to see how the beautiful scenes and characters were developed giving us an insight into the creativity that went into this absolute masterpiece of a game.
