Starfield: Ship Parts And Repairing Your Ship

Think of them as health packs for your ship.

It’s absolutely vital to be able to repair your ship while you’re out and about in space. Unlike on Earth, an asteroid can literally jump up and right in front of your ship causing either slight or serious damage to your ship and its systems.

Being able to repair this right there on the spot is very important, you never know when a band of raiders or pirates are going to slip out of warp and attack you. Being able to defend yourself will be very difficult if your ship is falling apart before the battle has even started.

As you know, or if you didn’t. When you’re planetside and visiting a technician there is an option to pay some credits to get your ship fixed. It is essential to pay those fees if you plan on going on a lengthy exploration. If not you might have to warp back to the nearest shipyard to fix your ship.

The other method of fixing your ship is using ship parts. Similar to health packs that heal your character there on the spot, these ship parts play a similar role in fixing your ship.

In the beginning, it will take time to stock up on these. Your credits will be low so outright buying them won’t really be an option. Knowing where to look and Loot these will also take some time to learn and figure out.

As mentioned above, there are two ways of obtaining them, either by buying them from merchants or looting them while you’re out and about.

One of the best methods to Loot for ship parts is after a battle. You will notice icons appearing where ships have been destroyed. Simply fly closer so that you’re within 500 meters of these icons. Make sure you lock onto them and then you can Loot them.

Most of the time you will get a few ship parts from each of these wreckages. This does mean you will take damage to obtain these, but on the bright side, it does give you the opportunity to build up space combat experience which is a big part of the game.

Ship parts can be used while piloting your ship. They repair 40% of your ship over ten seconds. Something else to note. They are quite heavy, each one weighing 10kg. So they will quickly fill up your cargo hold or inventory.
