THQ Nordic acknowledged the delay for a legitimate cause
January is typically a slow month for high-profile new releases on the gaming calendar, and that trend is set to continue as Alone in the Dark has been pushed back to March 20. THQ Nordic acknowledged the postponement for a valid cause, which was originally set to arrive next month. As the holiday season approaches and everyone takes a breather, developer Pieces Interactive will try to avoid needing to rush the game to meet the initial January 16 target.
“With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them,” THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive stated in the press release. “Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20, 2024. The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays.”
Pieces Interactive will also devote additional effort to polishing the game. The revised release date puts it ahead of other major January titles like Tekken 8 and Like a Dragon 8: Infinite Wealth, and just two days before Princess Peach: Showtime and Dragon’s Dogma 2. This isn’t the first time Alone in the Dark has been delayed; the game was originally set to release in October, but THQ Nordic smartly decided to avoid competing with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
This new installment of the survival horror series stars David Harbour as investigator Edward Carnby, who is joined by Jodie Comer as Emily Harwood. Together, they set out to find Harwood’s lost uncle inside Derceto Manor, a terrible mansion with some new horrifying occupants.
