Beast: False Prophet Receives Major Update

Beast: False Prophet is the new game for the horrific dark ages tactical RPG as it receives an update during its development on Steam Early Access

Beast, the brutal tactical RPG, has a new name, unveiled to coincide with its second major update. The promising strategy game combines the dark fantasy stylings and moral ambiguity of The Witcher and Baldur’s Gate 3 with turn-based, gridless combat akin to the recently released Baldur’s Gate 3 and an older but very recognizable title XCOM 2, and it recently received a significant upgrade as part of its continued development in Steam Early Access. Along with this final patch for 2023, the False Prophet team unveils the game’s final name, Beast: False Prophet.

Beast: False Prophet is a bleak, gritty turn-based RPG set in a fantasy realm from the Dark Ages. As a veteran returning home to find his hometown under the control of a terrible prophet-king and cursed by a hellish epidemic, it is up to you to save your land and its people. A bestial curse lurking within you gives you the opportunity to unleash the demonic, savage power of your inner beast on your adversaries, but at what cost?

In its grimdark fantasy setting inspired by Carpathian folklore, you’ll be faced with a slew of difficult choices, many of which have no truly good answer, and engage opponents in a mix of fast-paced melee and ranged action with your party of up to four characters at simultaneously. The game’s fighting systems already hold a lot of promise, and with this next update, you’ll have even more opportunities to explore them.

The second significant update to Beast: False Prophet adds five new missions across three new terrain types, as well as six new enemy types and two new enemy classes to encounter. It also adds a new camp, many new cutscenes, and a slew of new models to bring variation to the existing enemy classes.

There’s an alternate beast mode transformation available by investing in the “Exercise Beast” skill tree, and a new “Loyalty and Treason” system will track your companion’s happiness with you, with the chance for them to leave your warband entirely if they get too upset.

You can now finally play the game from start to finish and see our first ending,” Is said in the update notes “We’ve left no stone unturned in our quest to make Beast an unforgettable adventure. We now hope current and future players will see the kind of game we want to finish developing. As we stand on the edge of finalizing our game, we recognize that our journey has one more chapter of polishing and bug fixing to be done.”

Beast: False Prophet update 2 is now available. To commemorate, the game is presently on 20% sale on Steam until Monday, December 18, so you can grab it for R184.00 ($19.99 / £16.79) instead of R230.00 ($24.99 / £20.99).
