Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 Have Been Inadvertently Leaked

Gearbox is reportedly working on multiple Borderlands games at the moment

Gearbox appears to be working on two new Borderlands games Borderlands 4 is one of these games, which comes as no surprise. With the success of Borderlands 3, as well as Borderlands and Borderlands 2, a fourth mainline installment in the Borderlands series was bound to happen sooner rather than later. It’s also working on a sequel to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, which is a little surprising.

If both of these things are true, and they appear to be, Gearbox has continued to bet big on the Borderlands franchise while putting developing new IP on the back burner, as evidenced by the fact that it hasn’t shipped a new IP since Battleborn in 2016. Not surprisingly, given how disastrous Battleborn was, it’s playing it safe by adding more and more Borderlands.

The source of the leak is the purported Gearbox developer’s LinkedIn profile, which names-drops two unannounced games: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 and Borderlands 4. Although the latter has leaked before, the former hasn’t been leaked yet. Despite this, Gearbox has previously touted the success of the spin-off series in order to raise expectations for it.

Borderlands 4 is reportedlyin the works

“Wonderlands shattered all of our target expectations, both critically and commercially,” said Randy Pitchford of Gearbox last year about Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ success, “and I’m thrilled to report that in addition to great financial rewards from this victory that will be coming our way in the coming quarters, we have established a firm beachhead, and we now clearly have a new franchise on our hands.”

Take all of this with a grain of salt for the time being, but Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 appear to be foregone conclusions. The question is when they will appear. Given that Borderlands 3 is more than four years old, it’s probably reasonable to expect Borderlands 4 within the next two to three years, based on Gearbox Software’s output history and the time between Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 may be delayed because Gearbox is unlikely to release them concurrently, and given that the first game was only released last year, we expect Borderlands 4 to come first.
