Buffel Gaming’s down-to-earth demeanor and the fun and relaxed atmosphere he portrays radiate his passion for gaming in every stream.
With a background in Radio broadcasting and photography, he radiates professionalism. So naturally, we wanted to know more and caught up with him to find out who exactly is Buffel Gaming?
This is how our interview went down:
Firstly, we wanted to know who is Buffel Gaming and what is his backstory?
“Well, most of the time people would say I’m a bit of a clown. But overall, I’m just a guy who has a passion for anything broadcast-related. I’ve been in radio for over 16 years now starting out in campus radio then moving to commercial radio at one of the country’s biggest stations and currently I’m doing an afternoon drive show on a community station in Pretoria.
I like pushing the boundaries and challenging myself and is one of the reasons I like creating content so much. I am also a full-time fashion and lifestyle photographer and since Covid, I have added streamer to my CV as well.
The streaming journey started for me during lockdown where I had the basic tools to start a stream. I was watching a lot of the international content creators on YouTube and thought “well if they can why can’t we”.
At the time I didn’t know of any Afrikaans content creators until I started. This was also when Call of duty launched Warzone so I got back into gaming and thought this was the perfect time to combine the two but give it a nice local twist.”
What is his role in the gaming community?
“Well, I’m trying to create a community of gamers that enjoy viewing content and gaming in their home language but also feel you are never too old to start gaming. The Buffel community is like none other, the guys and girls are extremely inclusive, supportive, and non-toxic.
The stream should be a place where you come and hang out for a couple of hours at a time and break away from your everyday worries, hang with friends, meet new people and enjoy a few laughs.
I am by no means the best gamer out there and my K/D shows that but to me, it’s much more than that, it’s not about how sweaty you are, my aim is to make it feel like everyone is welcome and run it almost like I would my radio show.”
What is Buffel Gaming’s favourite genre of game?
“I love FPS games, I started gaming for the first time back when Battlefield 3 dropped and I really enjoyed it. Then I moved through the Battlefield franchise for long until I found COD during lockdown.”
What is his preferred gaming platform?
“I stream on Facebook Gaming. I also enjoy YouTube.”
What about his favourite thing about gaming?
“Personally, gaming is a way for me to take a break, sit down and chill with a few mates. Sometimes I wonder why guys take it so seriously.
As someone who works 2 full-time jobs when I switch my PC on, I want to have fun, and that’s why it’s called a game.
It’s amazing how a game and the achievements in the game can take you away from reality for hours on end and sometimes that’s exactly what we need.”
What drives his gaming passion?
“My passion is driven by the viewers of my stream. I love gaming, I’m a casual gamer, but I love the support, encouragement, and interaction from my community.
They come up with the craziest ideas and it makes for a bunch of laughs. We have become like a family and as long as they enjoy watching me Bot around, I’ll try and give them the best games and viewing experience I can.”
Lastly, we asked what Buffel Gaming’s current projects are and what does he have planned for the future?
“Well, we are working on hitting the 10 000-follower mark on my page and becoming the first Afrikaans Facebook Partner. We are also planning a few events like a golf day etc. to get the community together in person and share a few drinks.
Also working on some new Vape flavours that should be dropping later in the year and some merch for the channel.”
