Fans of Dead Island will be excited to hear that the second installment is in “active development” according to Deep Silver.
The announcement was made in an interview to Gamesradar following the leak of new information stating:
“We have confirmed that the game is in active development, and will share more details once we are ready.”
They went on to confirm that the game was in “active development” and that there will be a gameplay trailer released really soon.
The original game was released in September 2011 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360. The action PRG, survival horror received a tepid reception but had generally favourable reviews.
Dead Island was praised for its “emotional impact”, animation, and storyline, and its trailer was hailed as one of the best in its medium.
The official reveal trailer for Dead Island:
The plot revolved around the zombie apocalypse and focused on the difficulty of survival in a zombie-infested open world with a heavy emphasis on melee fighting. The story follows four playable survivors as they attempt to survive and flee the fictional island of Banoi.
Dead Island 2 was first developed by Techland, the creators of the first Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, in 2014, but was then shifted to Yager.
In 2015, the latter team was terminated, and the work was transferred to Sumo Digital, and then to Dambusters in 2019, resulting in the creation of four development teams in just over five years.
The game was criticized for its technical difficulties and in-game errors, as well as its graphics and, most significantly, its lack of the emotional elements as seen in the trailer.
Despite this though the game has many die-hard fans that are undoubtedly excited for the next installment in the franchise.
We do know that Dead Island 2 is set to be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One and is different from its predecessors because it takes place in various locations in California. These include an open-world Los Angeles, San Francisco, and an undisclosed third location in California.
The combat in Dead Island 2 differs in its mechanics from that of its predecessors. The “rage” and crafting systems will return in Dead Island 2, as do other features from the first game.
