Irdeto Introduces Tool to Help Developers Track Down Game Leaks
Irdeto, the developer behind Denuvo, has announced TraceMark for Games, a new anti-piracy software designed to assist developers in tracking down leaks of their games. Revealed at the Game Developers Conference, TraceMark offers developers the ability to embed watermarks within game builds, providing a means to identify leaked content and trace it back to its source.
Developers can opt for visible or invisible watermarks, enabling a “dual approach” to accurately track leaked content during a game’s pre-release phase. According to Irdeto, this capability aims to deter potential leakers by linking unauthorized distribution directly to them.
The software boasts platform-agnostic integration, allowing seamless incorporation into existing development workflows without compromising player experience. Additionally, TraceMark features a self-service detection portal, empowering developers to independently verify the presence of watermarks in their work. Even amidst “robustness attacks” such as luminance changes, blurring, compression, and cropping, the software can detect watermarks effectively.
While Irdeto’s Denuvo anti-piracy program has faced criticism for its impact on game performance, TraceMark aims to address concerns by offering developers a more precise and efficient means of protecting their content. With its introduction, Irdeto seeks to provide developers with enhanced security measures against piracy while maintaining the integrity of the gaming experience.
