LinkedIn Is Growing: Its Platform Now Offers Puzzle-Based Games
LinkedIn, the renowned social media platform primarily used for professional networking, is stepping into the gaming arena. While an official launch date is yet to be announced, LinkedIn has confirmed its plans to introduce games to its platform, aiming to add a touch of entertainment and foster deeper connections among users.
A spokesperson from LinkedIn revealed to TechCrunch that the platform is exploring the integration of puzzle-based games into the LinkedIn experience. These games are envisioned to offer users a source of amusement, facilitate relationship-building, and potentially initiate meaningful conversations. Specific details regarding the gameplay mechanics and features of these games are yet to be disclosed.
Leaked screenshots, shared by web developer Nima Owji, offer a glimpse into the three games purportedly under development: “Queens,” “Crossclimb,” and “Blueprint.” These games appear to be relatively straightforward puzzle games reminiscent of popular titles like Wordle from The New York Times. Players are expected to engage in solving puzzles while being able to track their gameplay activity, including daily streaks.
LinkedIn, a subsidiary of Microsoft following its acquisition in 2016 for $26 billion, seems to be venturing into gaming with a focus on casual and accessible experiences within its professional networking platform. It remains unclear to what extent Microsoft is involved in this gaming initiative, especially considering its recent mega-acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $74.5 billion in 2023.
While social media platforms like Facebook have explored gaming in the past, with initiatives like the Facebook Gaming app, which was discontinued in October 2022, LinkedIn’s foray into gaming represents a notable expansion of its features. As the landscape of social media continues to evolve, with platforms like TikTok also testing the waters of gaming, LinkedIn’s move underscores a growing trend of convergence between social networking and interactive entertainment.
