A 2020 EA game is no longer available from digital storefronts
A 2020 EA game was abruptly removed from the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Steam, and Origin, leaving PC, PS4, and Xbox One gamers with no way to obtain the game digitally. In other words, if you don’t already own it, you will never own it, or at least not a digital copy. Physical retail copies of the game are still available, but this will undoubtedly change over time.
Many games were delisted in 2023, which is becoming an increasingly common occurrence as servers for games become too expensive to maintain in the face of a declining player base or licenses become too expensive to renew. Rocket Arena is the most recent example of this expanding trend. Its digital listings are still available, but there is no way to download the game. What’s strange is that there was no word from EA or developer Final Strike Games in the lead-up to, during, or after this occurred. If this changes, we will make sure to update the story.
The game was released on July 14, 2020, with Metacritic scores ranging from 68 to 73 depending on platform. One year later, in 2021, it stopped receiving new content and updates because it failed to cultivate the required number of players. And this was the game’s obvious fate from the moment it was released to little fanfare. To say the least, its sudden removal from digital storefronts is surprising, but it’s far from the biggest surprise of the year.
