It’s a “little ways off” but “progressing well”

Elden Ring DLC is still a ways away, according to a FromSoftware developer.

FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao was asked for an update on Elden Ring’s upcoming DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 in Japan. According to Game Watch, Kitao stated that FromSoftware “still has a little way to go” with DLC development before it releases, but that it is “progressing well.”

This appears to put an end to a strange rumor that surfaced last month in November, claiming that Shadow of the Erdtree would be released in early 2024. The origins of that rumor are unknown, but Kitao’s comment appears to have put it to rest.

In fact, Kitao’s remark is similar to one made by FromSoftware’s parent company last month. The Elden Ring developer, Kadokawa Corporation, stated that Shadow of the Erdtree development was “proceeding smoothly,” which sounds a lot like Kitao’s new comment at the PlayStation event.

The Erdtree in Elden Rings new expansion

Since the Elden Ring DLC was announced in February, these are the only two comments made about Shadow of the Erdtree. We don’t yet know how the DLC will interact with the massive base game, or which characters it may focus on.

There’s still a lot of focus on the strange blonde figure in the DLC teaser image, which some fans have misidentified as Miquella. With this in mind, could Miquella DLC be the Elden Ring expansion we’ve been waiting for?
