Facebook Game-Streaming App To Be Released

In this time of Social-Distancing and Self Quarantine many companies are stepping forward to help bring us more entertainment.

One such company is Facebook.

Facebook told the New York Times that is releasing a gaming mobile app on April 20th, rather than waiting for the original date of release which would have been in June. This comes after considering all the people at home gaming in this time of pandemic crisis. The head of the Facebook App Fidji Simo on explaining the reason for this fast-track said:

“We’re seeing a big rise in gaming during quarantine, Investing in gaming in general has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that really connects people”

The app will initially be released for Android and then later on iOS once Apple has approved it.

It will include some casual games but their focus will be on watching and creating live-streams.

There won’t be any pesky ads but instead they will use “stars”. Facebook Stars is a feature that allows you to monetize your stream. Viewers can buy Stars and send them to you while you’re streaming.

It is expected that the “Instant Games” feature that was present on Messenger will be brought over to Facebook Gaming, meaning we get to play against each other in bite-sized games such as “words with friends” etc.

It is unsure if this venture will succeed, but we are eager to see what the hype is all about.
