Filming for Mortal Kombat 2 is underway following the Actors’ Strike
Production on a number of movies, including Mortal Kombat 2, has resumed since the Actors’ Strike ended. The sequel’s filming got underway in June, and actor Karl Urban recently posted a new image from the set to Instagram. Urban is seen in the picture with a number of his co-stars, and the caption says, “We’re back, baby!” According to a report that surfaced last month, other movies may take precedence over Mortal Kombat 2 production, which might not start again until the following year. Now that it’s evident otherwise, Warner Bros. will be completing the film.
The Instagram post that is embedded below has a picture of Urban and other Mortal Kombat 2 cast members.
Mortal Kombat 2 Cast:
Actor Linden Ashby portrayed Johnny Cage, a pivotal role in the first Mortal Kombat film from 1995. Many Mortal Kombat fans were shocked to learn that Johnny Cage was not part of the cast when the 2021 reboot was revealed. As Cole Young left the movie to recruit Cage for the upcoming Mortal Kombat tournament, it was evident at the end of the film that Cage would play a significant role in the sequel.
The role of Johnny Cage was not filled by an actor, so the movie did not feature Johnny Cage. This sparked a great deal of conjecture regarding the casting of the actor-turned-Kombatant, with suggestions focusing on Ryan Reynolds and WWE star The Miz. Karl Urban’s casting as the role’s actor in the follow-up put an end to the rumors surrounding it.
The remaining cast members of the first Mortal Kombat film, Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Ludi Li (Liu Kang), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), and Joe Taslim (Noob Saibot), will be joining Urban in Mortal Kombat 2. A number of characters from the first film, such as Martyn Ford’s Shao Khan, Ana Thu Nguyen’s Queen Sindel, and CJ Bloomfield’s Baraka, will also make appearances in this one.
Mortal Kombat 2 Release Date:
Mortal Kombat 2 is anticipated to hit theaters in 2024, though an exact release date is still unknown. The previous film received a mixed response; although the majority of reviewers seemed to detest Mortal Kombat, the film did well on HBO Max, where it soon rose to the top of the platform’s most-watched lists. It will be interesting to watch how the second movie in the series does with viewers and whether Mortal Kombat 2 can live up to the level of gore and story that fans of the video games have become accustomed to. Though filming has resumed, it may still be some time before the film opens in theaters, so hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long.
