Final Fantasy VII’s Remake is getting a sequel dubbed “Rebirth” and it is set to be released next year.
The announcement came from Square Enix directly during the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration stream.
The game will be called “Rebirth,” with a release date of “winter” next year, implying later in the year, and will be available exclusively on PS5 for the time being.
The Final Fantasy VII Remake was left on a sort of cliffhanger that left space for a lot more storyline, but thanks to a brief trailer released by Square Enix we know a little more.

Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura said on Twitter :
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not. In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy VII journey with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Cloud and his friends embark on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes that they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”
Rebirth will be the second game in a trilogy and Nomura said of the third game:
”Some development has already begun on the third title. I myself have started on the development and am working towards the completion of the series.”
After the Remake’s wild swerve of a finale saw protagonist Cloud Strife and companions defying their destinies and seemingly diverting from the events of the original Final Fantasy 7, Zack Fair and Cloud Strife will return in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
As the party exits the dystopian megacity of Midgar and enters the open world, Rebirth will reveal the consequences of their choices.
Producer Yoshinori said of the second installment in the trilogy:
“Making the middle part of a trilogy has its own challenges, but there are plenty of classic second installments in the world of film that are defined by stunning story twists and deeper explorations of their characters. Often these second installments become a favourite amongst the fans.”
In other Final Fantasy news, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an enhanced version of the 2020 game with an extra segment focusing on ninja Yuffie, will be released on Steam on the 17th of June. It’ll also work with Valve’s mobile gaming PC, Steam Deck.
There appears to be a lot going on in the world of Final Fantasy, so fans should be kept busy for a while.
