Publisher Phoenixx and developer IlluCalab recently announced the news that the long awaited PS4 port for Gensou Skydrift will finally arrive on the 9th of March. Which is right around the corner.

It is said that the game will support English, Japanese, and also simplified and Traditional Chinese options.

The developers have added some new playable characters to the roster including, Rin Kaenbyou and Alice Margatroid.

They have also added a few new stages for players to enjoy. These new stages will be “Heaven” and “Redevelopment Area B. These stages will be added to the available PC and Switch versions too via a free update on the same day.

The PS4 version will not support cross-platform multiplayer like the Nintendo Switch and PC versions of the game.

In a recent press release, the Lead developer of IlluCalab said of the game “Racing games can be intimidating to break into, but a game made by fans and featuring a cute and colorful cast can help change that perception. Gensou Skydrift melds the best of a beloved genre with the magic and lore of the Touhou Project to create a game which hides depth and strategy beneath a veneer of simplicity.”

Gensou Skydrift was developed by a former Nintendo employee who worked on Mario Kart 8’s battle mode. The story follows various denizens of Gensokyo as they investigate an influx of magical energy that seems to create race tracks in many locations. Due to the energy of some of the characters being sapped, they decide to ride on top of each other in flight to conserve magical power.

There are currently 18 stages including Youkai Mountain, Redevelopment Area A, and Seas of Tranquility. The game currently has 20 playable characters which include  Marisa Kirisame, Youmu Konpaku,  Flandre Scarlet, and Yukari Yakumo.

The trial version was originally released for PC on the 29th of December 2014 at Comiket 87, with the full version released at Comiket 88 on the 14th of August 2015.

It is said that Gensou Skydrift is similar in gameplay to Mario Kart: Double Dash and Sonic Riders.

Those fans of the game that have a PS4 can now have hours of racing fun with some added areas and characters to compete with from the 9th of March.
