New details have been revealed about Gotham Knights Leveling and Co-op system.
Gotham Knights is the Action Role-Playing game that is set to be released into the wild this year and as such new details regarding gameplay keep surfacing.
The game’s story takes place sometime after Batman’s apparent death. With the GCPD having grown corrupt following James Gordon’s death, there is a rise of crime and lawlessness in the city, leaving Batman’s allies – Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood – as the only ones able to restore justice to Gotham and prevent it from descending into chaos.
At some point during the game, the heroes will come into conflict with the Court of Owls, a secret criminal society that is as old as Gotham itself, and their legion of brainwashed assassins called Talons.
The developer WB Games International’s executive producer Fleur Marty and creative director Patrick Redding recently had an interview with GamesRadar outlining some new info regarding the gameplay.
It has previously been said that you will have four playable characters to choose from and these are: Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin.
These characters will “earn new gear and costumes and unlock abilities as you play, fighting crime in an open-world Gotham City with no level-gating.”
Fleur Marty has explained that the heroes you happen to leave behind while you take on the Court of Owls or Mr. Freeze won’t be left behind in terms of progression.
Her exact words being “Since the story progression is shared between all the characters, it also makes sense that you don’t have to level them up from scratch every time you want to switch. It also stays very coherent in terms of our narrative. Since the other members of the Batman family are always present in some way in the background, while you’re out in the world fighting crime or unraveling the mystery, they don’t stay inactive. So, it makes sense that they are also progressing and getting stronger.”
The game can be played solo or there is the option of drop-in/drop-out co-op for two players which is what it’s been designed around according to Redding.
Going on to say that “The two-player dynamic fits the fantasy and the Gotham City setting. The ‘duo’ or team-up is such a central feature of the universe that there’s a literal shorthand for it in the comics, animation, film, and TV versions.”
The game has been designed so that even when you are in the alleyways and tight spaces you and your partner will have no issues navigating these areas.
This highly anticipated game is due to drop this year and there are many that are chomping at the bit to bring out their inner superhero in the dark city of Gotham.
