Earnings call hints at potential shift in Grand Theft Auto VI’s release timeline
Amid fervent anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), recent insights from Take-Two’s earnings briefing suggest a possible delay in the game’s release, stirring speculation among fans eager for its arrival.
Initially slated for launch within the calendar year 2025, GTA 6’s release window may now be subject to adjustment based on indications from Take-Two’s latest financial update. While earlier projections hinted at a release during the company’s FY25 period (running from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025), the revised revenue guidance for this fiscal year prompts speculation that GTA 6 could now be aimed for release in FY26 (April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026).
While Take-Two has officially confirmed a 2025 release timeframe for GTA 6, the recent financial briefing suggests a potential shift to the latter part of the year. Analysts point to CFO Lainie Goldstein’s remarks during the earnings call, indicating a budget adjustment for FY25, with a reduction from a previous forecast of $8 billion to a figure slightly exceeding $7 billion . This significant adjustment has led to assumptions that GTA 6 may have been pushed beyond the FY25 window, potentially targeting a release between April and December 2025.
Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities underscored this assumption in a memo to investors, suggesting a likely shift of GTA 6 into FY26. While Rockstar Games has committed to a 2025 release, historical precedence suggests potential delays. Previous Rockstar titles, including Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption II, have experienced delays to ensure optimal quality—a practice the company prioritizes.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized Rockstar’s commitment to perfection in GTA 6, stating the game will not be released until it achieves creative optimization. Zelnick noted the developers’ dedication to excellence, driven in part by Take-Two’s profit-sharing initiatives, incentivizing the team to deliver exceptional results.
GTA 6, set in the fictional state of Leonida (a Miami-inspired locale), promises an immersive experience set in Vice City and its surroundings. With confirmed availability on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, fans eagerly await further updates on the game’s progress and potential release adjustments.
