Ubisoft CEO Defends Skull And Bones $70 Price Tag, Asserts 'AAAA' Quality

Yves Guillemot stands by the pricing decision, confident in the game’s scale and quality despite multiple delays

Ubisoft’s co-founder and CEO, Yves Guillemot, remains steadfast in his confidence in Skull and Bones, even going so far as to label it with the ambitious “AAAA” designation. Guillemot’s assertion came during a Q&A session conference call (thanks, VGC ), discussing the company’s Q3 sales for fiscal year 2024, where a caller questioned the $70 price tag for the game, considering its live-service format and the potential suitability of a free-to-play model.

In response, Guillemot defended the pricing decision, emphasizing the game’s scale, completeness, and high level of polish and quality. He expressed conviction in Skull and Bones, describing it as a “fully-fledged game” of significant size and depth. Guillemot’s confidence in the project was palpable as he labeled it a “quadruple-A game” that would deliver a comprehensive experience over the long term.

This statement from Guillemot comes amid Skull and Bones’ history of delays, with the game having been pushed back six times. Despite this, Ubisoft remains resolute in its commitment to the title’s quality and value proposition. The game’s open beta is currently underway, offering players a glimpse into what Skull and Bones has to offer ahead of its full release on February 16th for PS5.

As the launch date approaches, all eyes will be on Skull and Bones to see if it lives up to Guillemot’s bold claims and justifies its premium price point. Whether it will indeed be a quadruple-A experience remains to be seen, but players will soon have the opportunity to judge for themselves.
