It’s been likened to Overwatch, Gundam Evolution is the new Free-To-Play Mulitplayer FPS from Bandai Namco.
Bandai Namco has announced the new free-to-play multiplayer shooter that will be kicking off with a closed Beta in Japan in August. The game will be available on PC and has only been confirmed for A Japanese release for the time being.
The news coincides with Bandai Namco’s recent statement that they are developing a Gundam video game exclusively for Esports.
The game is set in the world of Mobile suit Gundam and many are noticing similarities to the highly popular Overwatch.
With its elaborate mecha designs and complex themes of war, politics, and coming of age, the Gundam franchise is extremely popular in its own right. It all began with the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV program, which helped pioneer the huge mecha anime genre in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The brand has inspired a plethora of merchandise, including TV shows, movies, manga, toys, and, of course, videogames, since its inception.
The new installment in the franchise will be a 6v6 FPS that has similar mechanics to Overwatch such as similar UI, objectives, and the characters have Ultimates at their disposal.
Gundam Evolution will come with three game modes, Point Capture, in which teams compete for possession of map locations; Domination, in which teams compete to capture one of three randomly assigned points; and Destruction, in which one team is tasked with destroying an object while the other tries to protect it.
