Redfall: What We Know So Far

REDFALL-What-We-Know-So-Far

Definitely not the game we expected, but certainly an FPS game worthy of the hype. Here’s what you can expect from this upcoming vampire-slaying co-op world.

Arkane Studios is keeping themselves quite busy with the development of Deathloop, although Redfall has been in the works since August 2017. Arkane has known titles such as Prey, Dishonored, and Bioshock 2 already under their belt.

With the announcement during E3 2021, there was quite a stir when it was realized that Redfall is not the game that everyone was expecting. However, we aren’t completely disappointed, with Arkane Studios knowing what they’re good at with the more single-player structured, immersive gameplay styles, they’re taking their development skills to new levels with this open-world first-person-shooter while keeping the immersive elements; having an interactive world, choices causing in-game world manipulation & reactions, unique playable characters, and customizable weapons, among other things.

An interview with Pete Hines has him saying the following:

“The most exciting part is that Arkane has basically said that they know what they’re known for and know what they do well and they want to take that and go bigger and a little different.”

Hines also confirms that with the different take on game style that this will be a game for a more strategic approach rather than just running in, guns blazing.

Redfall: What We Know So Far

The island of Redfall was once quaint and bustling until the vampires appeared. They blocked out the sun and drove out the ocean tides, completely cutting off the island from the outside world.

It all began with a few overly greedy people who became obsessed with power and eternity, experimenting with biotech longevity they ended up becoming blood-thirsty vampires, but not the stereotypical bloodsuckers who skulk in the shadows that we’ve all come to know.

This legion has a clear hierarchy of power, with each of these vampires having unique abilities such as one of the Anglers that was shown in the reveal trailer, who uses a psychic harpoon to impale its prey and isolate them from their group. There were also a few others that were briefly hinted at in the trailer but the Angler is the only name-specific enemy confirmed so far.

This vampire legion prey on any survivors for either building up their army or food.

Not only will you be facing the constant threat of having your throat ripped out by vampires but you will also come face-to-face with human cultists who worship these predators and hope to someday be granted the privilege to become one. We’re also expecting to come into contact with outposts of these cultists as you would enemy outposts in Far Cry, there were whispers about a possible day/night cycle such as in Dying Light but we’ll have to see how that would work seeing as though the sun has been blocked out.

CHARACTERS

How are you going to be doing some major vampire butt-kicking you may ask? Well, you will be playing as one of four survivors, either as a solo playthrough or as co-op with your possible real-life zombie apocalypse partners.

Each character has their own unique abilities and specialties while you are also able to upgrade your character according to your own tweaks, confirms Pete Hines in the interview.

“Each playable character can be played as their unique self with their abilities but you can also customize them to suit your individual play style.”

Their unique skills allow for solo playability but as co-op, you’ll be able to battle it out with awesome combos where each character’s skills compliments the other to wipe out the vampire threat as a team.
