Haunted Chocolatier: Everything We Know

Haunted-Chocolatier-Everything-We-Know

From the makers of Stardew Valley comes a fantasy world with Chocolate making, castles and friendly ghosts, here is all we know so far.

Eric Barone announced Haunted Chocolatier last year and since then there hasn’t been much news on this new mysterious RPG.

Instead of leaving the major city to become a farmer, players become the new local chocolatier in this game, which is based on Stardew Valley’s gameplay and art design.

The storyline of Haunted Chocolatier differs though as it is set in a haunted castle with ghosts who are friendly and work shifts inside the store.

The game is still in early development so a set release date is less than forthcoming, unfortunately.

The official teaser Trailer for Haunted Chocolatier:

The trailer paints a Stardew Valley-like picture, with a few key differences in locale, storyline, and layout, but it appears to be a relaxing setting, similar to Stardew Valley. The trailer depicts a world in which players will fight enemies, engage with locals, and make chocolate for their own businesses.

On the game’s official site Barone himself states:

”I’ve been doing a lot of work on Haunted Chocolatier, and making good progress. Mostly, I’m working on core elements of the game. I will be doing this for a while. I don’t really feel like sharing much, because I’d rather let the game be a surprise than reveal everything. I just like working in secret.”

Players will have to run their own chocolatier businesses.

The gameplay will mainly focus on “gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop.” says Barone.

He also talks about the combat in-game and says that “Haunted Chocolatier has a greater focus on combat, so it needs to be very fun, satisfying, and engaging, while also appropriately fitting into the big picture. You can rest assured that I’m not “copying and pasting” Stardew’s combat. On the contrary, almost everything in Haunted Chocolatier, including the combat, is completely coded (and drawn) from scratch.”

Beatifully depicted 2D scenery in which to explore.

In terms of combat, Haunted Chocolatier will feature shields, which may be used to block strikes and stun adversaries, as well as other off-hand objects (e.g., A bow and Arrow) to complement various play-styles.

Barone also mentions that the game will have romantic relationships like in Stardew Valley, but that he hasn’t “decided exactly how the system will work, yet.” And that he expects to approach some things differently this time around.

At this time, there is no definite platform for Haunted Chocolatier other than PC, but Barone says he plans to bring the game to other major platforms as well. He did confirm that this game like Stardew Valley will be a solo project developed and published by “concerned Ape” AKA Eric Barone.

If you were wanting to play co-op with your friends, you’ll be disappointed as the game will launch as single-player only, however, Stardew Valley added multiplayer as a major update after launch, so only time will tell if this will change.

Players will interact with characters in-game.

There are a few characters that have been revealed so far:

  • Lily – she lives in a neon plant-filled home.
  • Jett – Works in a research lab for someone named Dr. Tungsten.
  • Nigel – A local bartender in an underground bar.
  • Maddie – A villager which we don’t know much about.
  • Burk – He appears to run a forge and shop that sells weapons.

If Stardew Valley’s popularity is anything to go by, then Haunted Chocolatier will be something to watch out for, for fans of the genre.

We will update you on any new developments regarding this exciting new RPG.
