Sony’s systems appear to be unstoppable and are more popular than ever

The PS5 is the only console that is currently experiencing sustained commercial growth in Europe. According to Games Industry, Sony’s current-generation system posted even more impressive numbers last month, with sales up a staggering 143% over October 2022.

This is partially due, of course, to the PS5’s ongoing stock issues from this time last year, which have since been fixed, but it’s crucial to remember that the system was still selling remarkably well at the time.

In the meantime, PlayStation’s direct rivals are losing ground in European markets. The Nintendo Switch, which is rapidly approaching its seventh birthday, was the second-best-selling system on the continent in October, despite a 20% decline in sales.

Conversely, the Xbox Series X and S have dropped significantly in popularity. Xbox’s primary market has never been Europe, but sales of Microsoft’s current systems are declining by 52% annually, suggesting that the company is struggling to gain any traction.

When you consider that the PS5 saw a 143% increase in sales, this generation’s success in Europe appears to be entirely lopsided (though Nintendo’s upcoming console will undoubtedly have an effect when it eventually launches).
