Michael Green updated us with a small titbit, but it goes so much further…
If you have perhaps forgotten, which is unlikely if you’re a BioShock fan, a BioShock movie has been in the work for a while now. Its debut will be on Netflix. The writer’s strike may have slowed down the progress and completion of creating our Cinematic trip down to Rapture, however, the project writer Michael Green has gifted us with a promising update.
“Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike.” Michael Green told Collider. “Yes, I got called, the, ‘How’s it coming along?’ the minute the strike was over, ‘You about ready…?'”
Green has also confirmed that he’s been “meeting regularly” with director Francis Lawrence to help “refine” the next draft.
“We all love it. It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”
The Original Bioshock was released back in 2007 and was developed by 2K Boston, BioShock made a lot of waves back then and was easily regarded as one of the greatest video games of the 21st Century.
If that was during your time and you played it when it was released, you would know exactly what I’m referring to. The game changed so many perspectives. It easily helped pave the way for FPS horror games that followed in the years after its release.
Bioshock 1 took place in Rapture, an underwater Utopia for the extremely rich and powerful. Things turn violent and ugly soon in this supposed-to-be Utopia.
Getting Bioshock onto the big screen isn’t new, in the past there were talks to make it happen, the light was green and it seemed like everything was in place. Director Gore Verbinski was leading the project for Universal Studios back in 2008.
“We were eight weeks prior shooting when the plug was pulled,” Verbinski previously wrote back in 2017 during a Reddit Ask Me Anything session.
“It’s an R-rated movie. I wanted to keep it R-rated, I felt like that would be appropriate, and it’s an expensive movie. It’s a massive world we’re creating and it’s not a world we can simply go to locations to shoot.”
