A senior community manager at Done, John Junyszek responds by saying that the unnamed reports regarding the announcement of the upcoming GTA 6 ruined a surprise for the franchise’s fan base.
In December, a first-look trailer for the game will be released, capping years of rumours and conspiracy theories that included unfounded rumours about Grand Theft Auto 6 recently. Before Rockstar’s declaration, however, a Bloomberg article revealed the details of the highly anticipated game’s impending reveal.
John Junyszek, the senior community manager for Halo at 343 Industries, was not amused by that. He explained on Twitter/X why it bothered him so much that anonymous sources were giving GTA 6 details to the media, and he added that developers shouldn’t do it.
“Imagine: You and your teammates have been dreaming of this moment since day one,” Junyszek wrote. “Now that it’s almost ready, entire teams have started planning to turn that reveal into something truly memorable for the fans, the studio, and the gaming community as a whole. Then, right before the announcement, someone takes it upon themselves to undermine it all – robbing millions of fans (and the team you’ve been in the trenches with) of the reveal that they deserve.”
“Rather than being a spectacular surprise – you are now an expectation. All because of one person. Don’t be that person. Please just let cool moments be cool moments.”
Junyszek defended Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, the author of the GTA 6 story, in a follow-up post. Here he noted, “He’s shined a light on many games and stories in the industry that deserved to be covered.”
In February 2022, Rockstar already declared that GTA 6 development was “well underway.” This happened following a significant game leak suggesting a trip back to Vice City. Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, also hinted at the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 during his remarks to investors this year, stating that he thinks the company will achieve “new record levels of operating performance” for its fiscal 2025 (April 2024–March 2025).
December will see the release of the GTA 6 trailer in conjunction with Rockstar’s 25th anniversary. However, no precise day or time was given.
