Mortal Kombat 1 players can now take on the role of Spider-Man
Mortal Kombat 1 players are causing Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson to fight violently. Mortal Kombat is arguably one of gaming’s most violent franchises. The series is at least partially to blame for the establishment of the ESRB. Games were largely unregulated in their early days, but there was a backlash when Mortal Kombat came out with a high level of violence. Many people were concerned, and the government threatened to regulate it, but the ESRB stepped in and opted to impose restrictions and a ratings system. Mortal Kombat 1 can now include absurdly violent deaths without fear of the government cracking down on NetherRealm.
Having said that, Mortal Kombat 1 recently added some of its most violent moments in the DLC for Invincible’s Omni-Man. The pack includes the JK Simmons-voiced supervillain as well as some of his trademark yet brutal fighting moves. One of the most memorable is when he drags his opponent into a train tunnel and slams them through the train and its passengers, causing them to explode into puddles of blood. Because Omni-Man resembles JK Simmons, fans have modded in Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson to settle their differences.
Deathmule, a YouTuber, put together a compilation of fatalities for the two characters, and it’s pretty awesome. The iconic comic-book feud now allows the two characters to viciously beat each other down, even using some of the Invincible fatalities to properly demonstrate what that battle would look like. Take a look at the images below.
Spider-Man 2 was just released, and it included even more J. Jonah Jameson content. Spidey has to confront the journalist at one point, and he’s prominently featured in a podcast throughout the game. Of course, Spider-Man in those games is far too friendly to consider throwing him through a train. Even in the black suit, Peter Parker never took his frustrations out on JJJ. In any case, it’s great to see fans using their creativity… even if it’s for something extremely violent.
Mortal Kombat 1 Special/ Guest Characters:
Mortal Kombat 1 is unlikely to include Spider-Man, but there are other guest characters planned in addition to Omni-Man. Peacemaker and Homelander have already been confirmed. It remains to be seen whether there will be more, but it does not appear difficult to imagine.
