Netflix has recently acquired a mobile game studio called Boss Fight Entertainment, which is its third gaming studio acquisition in 6 months.

Netflix has now bought its third game studio in as little as six months, the reason they gave for this is to “ help accelerate our ability to provide Netflix members with great games wherever they want to play them.”

Netflix says Boss Fight Entertainment has “extensive experience building hit games across genres.”

The announcement was made via a blog post where Netflix mentioned that they have been expanding their “games catalog bit by bit” as they build the “in-house creative team”.

In the blog post, the founders of Boss Fight Entertainment said:

“Boss Fight’s mission is to bring simple, beautiful, and fun game experiences to our players wherever they want to play. Netflix’s commitment to offer ad-free games as part of members’ subscriptions enables game developers like us to focus on creating delightful gameplay without worrying about monetization.

We couldn’t be more excited to join Netflix at this early stage as we continue doing what we love to do while helping to shape the future of games on Netflix together.”

The Boss Fight Entertainment team, based in Allen, Texas, will continue to operate out of their present studios in Allen (Dallas), Austin, and Seattle, allowing Netflix to tap into excellent creative talent outside of California.

Netflix announced in January that it would extend its slate of games in 2022 in order to become the “absolute best” gaming service in the business. Stranger Things 3: The Game and Card Blast are two of the twelve games offered on Netflix’s gaming service, which began rolling out to users in November.

Netflix’s final statement on the blog said:

“We’re still in the early days of building great game experiences as part of your Netflix membership. Through partnerships with developers around the world, hiring top talent, and acquisitions like this, we hope to build a world-class games studio capable of bringing a wide variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games – with no ads and no in-app purchases – to our hundreds of millions of members around the world.”

In a letter to investors, Netflix stated:

“We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation, and unscripted TV. Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series.”

Netflix seems to be placing its fingers in numerous pies and expanding its empire one gaming developer at a time. What will the future hold for Netflix gaming? We will be sure to let you know so stay tuned.
