Product Placement To Be Removed In Alan Wake Remaster

For many people, the original game contained far too much shameless product placement, and the good news is that they will all be removed.

The original Alan Wake game came out in 2010 and was littered with not very subtle product placement (remember the Energizer batteries?). well, this was an eyesore for many and it seems the developers of the remake decided to replace these with “generic in-universe branding”. Other brands being removed include Verizon, Ford, and Lincoln among others.

This news comes from an unnamed PR rep from Alan Wake that divulged the news to Screen Rant recently.

This is primarily due to expiring brand deals, although it will come as a relief to those who found them irritating. Instead of having to find “Energizer” batteries specifically, Alan can use any old batteries he finds lying around which should make for easier gameplay in that regard.

The Alan Wake remaster will bring back to life a timeless classic and will grace screens on the 5th of October on PC, PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The remaster will include the original horror story and its two expansions as well as a new commentary track by Sam Lake.

According to the official website:” The game’s cutscenes, quirky cast of characters, and majestic Pacific Northwest vistas have been enhanced for a visual impact that matches its unnerving atmosphere”.

The game will be released through Epic Games publishing and will boast 4k Resolution and will include all of the same licensed music from the original game.

Despite the fact that the developer appears to be simply polishing the game, several elements from the original will be missing.

The original Alan Wake followed best-selling thriller novelist Alan Wake as he tried to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington, all while experiencing events from the plot in his latest novel, which he couldn’t remember writing, coming to life. In its pacing and structure, Alan Wake was similar to a thriller television series, with episodes that contain plot twists and cliffhangers.

The game itself consisted of six episodes, and the storyline was continued by two special episodes, titled “The Signal” and “The Writer”, that were made available as downloadable content (DLC) within the same year of the game’s release.

Critics applauded the game for its visuals, sound, narrative, pacing, and atmosphere, and it was ranked #1 in Time magazine’s top 10 video games of 2010. Fans are eagerly anticipating the remastering and polishing of this legendary game, which will reveal a far superior version of the original.

In other news, after finally purchasing the IP from Microsoft in 2019, Remedy is rumored to also be working on a sequel to Alan Wake.
